Bro. Richard Lee Owens of Windsor died Friday, March 13, 2015 at his residence. He was 73. Born in Russell County on Dec. 23, 1941, he was the son of the late Clarence Edwin and Zella Withers Owens. He was the founder and president of Owens Construction Company, which he proudly operated with his family for more than 40 years. After trusting Jesus Christ as his personal Savior he was scripturally baptized by Union Baptist Church. Soon afterwards, he surrendered to the ministry and was ordained by the Cedar Springs Baptist Church on Dec. 16, 1976 and has faithfully preached the gospel for more than 40 years. During that time he has served as the pastor of the Valley Oak Baptist Church in Argyle, Ky and the Carter Ridge Baptist Church in Mintonville, Ky. In 2014, Carter Ridge Baptist Church had a surprise celebration to honor Pastor Owens for serving 30 years as their pastor. He was one of the founding members and served on the Board of Directors for the Central Kentucky AG/EXPO Center in Liberty. Also, he was an Advisory Board Member at Monticello Banking Company in Liberty. Pa, as he was called by his grandchildren, enjoyed training his quarter horses, cattle farming and bluegrass/gospel music. He was a member of the Melody Heirs and the Joybells, which are both Southern Gospel singing groups in the mid 1960's through the early 1970's. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Goodin Owens; three children, Ricky (Lesa) Owens, Teresa (Roger) Thompson, and Ashley (Reggie) Tipton, all of Windsor; 10 grandchildren: Ashton (Jeremy) Stearns, Joshua (Andrea) Owens, Wesley Thompson, Jesse Owens, Savannah Owens, Owen Tipton, Evan Tipton, Atty-Kate Tipton, Anslee Tipton, Avery Tipton; and a sister, Judith (Gary) Wilson of Pulaski County.
