Vatus Gibson of Hustonville passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Stanford. She was 89. Born Sept. 1, 1924 in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Carrie Sandusky Emerson. Mrs. Gibson was a housewife and a member of the McKinney Christian Church. Survivors include four sons, Dallin (and Phyllis) Gibson of Georgetown, Gary Gibson and Russell (and Kathy) Gibson, both of Hustonville, and Ricky (and Jennifer) Gibson of Glasgow; three daughters, Faye Roy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Sue (and Kenneth) Bailey of Georgetown, and Phillis (and Bobby) Wallen of Franklin, Ind.; two brothers, Gene Emerson of Liberty and Rex (and Connie) Emerson of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Lois Miller of Liberty and Sue Cross of Cincinnati, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Gibson; her parents; a son, Larry Gibson; a daughter, Dorothy Sprinkles; three brothers, Jesse, Rollin, and Coy Emerson; a sister, Jewell Smith; three grandchildren; and several other great- and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were Dec. 31 at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Jerod Moore officiating. Burial was in the Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
