Winfrey Watson of Liberty died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at his residence. He was 87. Born in Liberty on Oct. 22, 1926, he was the son of the late Ollis and Irene Vaught Watson. He was a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Winfrey enjoyed traveling, fishing and reading, especially his Bible. He enjoyed building and making metal and machinery, and wooden objects in his shop. He was a member of Valley Oak Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hammond Watson, to whom he was married for 62 years; a son, Chris (and Kathy Vest) Watson of Liberty; a daughter, Christy Karen (and Jimmy) Thrasher of Somerset; three grandchildren, Jacquelyn Watson (and fiance Nick Borders) of Bowling Green, Tanner (and Jennifer Stephens) Thrasher of Somerset, and Dustin Thrasher (and special friend Ashley Jones) of Lexington; a great-granddaughter, Lorein Stephens; and special cousin, Dr. Steven Vaught and family of Elizabethtown. Funeral services were March 15 at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Clark officiating. Burial was at Valley Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tanner and Justin Thrasher, Nick Borders, George Vest, Ronnie Joe and Kenny Wesley. Honorary pallbearer was Steve Vaught. Bartle Funeral Home Liberty was in charge of arrangements.
