Vernon Eugene Castell, 93, of Cedar Key passed away July 7, 2017.
He was born June 20, 1924 to the late Jannie and Charles Castell Sr. in Cedar Key, where he lived most of his life. He was married 63 years to the late Myra Josephine (Coburn) Castell. He was a retired as a BCM (Chief Boatswain's Mate) from the United States Coast Guard and served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a Christian. He loved his family and mowing his yard
He is survived by his daughter, LaVerne Bell of Chiefland; a son, Douglas (Wanda) Castell of Inglis; his brothers, Hallie Castell of Dunnellon, C.W. "Bubba" Castell of Jonesville and John Castell of Keystone Heights; four grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and other extended family members.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 11 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Key, with Father Jim Wright officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Chiefland Monday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 4054 D St. Cedar Key, FL 32625.
