Esther Mary Hartman

Esther Mary Hartman November 14, 1922 November 21, 2013 Esther Mary Hartman, 91, of State College, died Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in State College. She was born November 14, 1922, at Oak Hall Station, a daughter of the late Samuel and Anne Bohn Reitz. On June 27, 1940, in Winchester, VA, she married Lloyd "Dick" H. Hartman who preceded her in death on February 13, 2002. Esther attended Boalsburg High School through the 12th grade. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a contractor with the U. S. Mail Service and worked as a waitress/ manager at Duffy's Tavern in Boalsburg. A long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Boalsburg, Mrs. Hartman served as the church organist for many years. She loved children and animals, and enjoyed taking care of them. Surviving Mrs. Hartman are a daughter, Barbara King of State College; three sons, Harold Hartman of Florida, Larry Hartman of State College and Bob Hartman of Stormstown; seven grandchildren, Bob, Ceirra, Erik, Chris, and Sam Hartman, Terry King, and Sherry King Minarchick; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin Reitz. Friends will be received 10 - 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. The funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Brent Book officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, State College. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
