James "Jim" Herrmann

James Herrmann "Jim" February 4, 1952 December 17, 2013 James (Jim) Herrmann, 61, of rural Centre Hall, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at Hershey Medical Center in Hershey. He was born February 4, 1952, in Sioux Falls, SD, as son of the late James Edward and Doris Bush Herrmann. On May 11, 1980, he married Donna Ketner who survives at home. Following his graduation from high school, Jim served with the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning a National Service Medal and an M-16 Sharpshooter Citation. Jim worked as a mail carrier with the Bowie, MD Post Office from 1985 to 1995 and the State College Post Office from 1995 until his retirement in 2012. Jim served as the co-founder along with his wife Donna, of The Hundred Cat Foundation. As evidenced by his devotion to finding homes for and caring for displaced cats, he loved animals, especially his favorite cat, Rajah, and his dog, Ziggy. He also enjoyed spending time by his pond observing the fish and raising chickens. Surviving in addition to his wife, is a daughter, Melanie Gardner of Hyattsville, MD; two sons, Sean Herrmann and his wife Jessica of Centre Hall, and Jason Herrmann and his fianc e Tara Cosgriff of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Dominique Cole and Nia Gardner; three sisters Vicky Porfilio of Florida, and Melonie Henry and Pamela Herrmann both of California. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:30 pm Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will follow immediately at 2:30 pm at the funeral home with pastor Jim Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery in Centre Hall.
