Robert John O'Leary

Robert John O'Leary November 20, 1950 December 4, 2013 Robert John O'Leary, "Bob," passed away peacefully Dece-mber 4th after a brief illness. Bob was born on November 20, 1950, in Bellefonte to John and Loretta O'Leary. Bob played basketball and baseball during his youth. He was on the 1966 VFW baseball team who won the state championship and went on to be fourth in the nation. He graduated from Penn State University in 1971 and was a Delta Chi fraternity member. He was given the PSU Alumni Fellow Award in 2000 and The Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award in 2006. He spent the last twenty years mentoring students in the College of Communications. He was an avid PSU football fan and was a season ticket holder for 32 years. During his career he worked in Communications and Public Relations for IBM, Unisys, Mobil, Bacardi, Goodyear and Sears. He is survived by his son Tim of Cocoa, FL; daughter Katie (Nick) Stewart of Rockledge, FL; granddaughter Olivia Stewart; his brother Tom (Bernadine) of Camp Hill; niece Colleen (Jeff) Zonarich of TN; nephew Patrick (Charity) of PA; and former wife Linda of Rockledge, FL. Bob was a wonderful father, brother, uncle and friend and he will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2:00 p.m. at Centre County Memorial Park (Chapel Mausoleum) in State College. Visitation will take place 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow after service. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Robert J. O'Leary Trustee Scholarship, College of Communications, 301 James Building, 123 S. Burrowes St., University Park, PA 16802, Attn: Janet Klinefelter.
