Roy E. (Tiny) Tate Jr.

Roy (Tiny) E. Tate Jr. October 9, 1940 June 23, 2014 Roy "Tiny" E. Tate, Jr., 73, of State College, passed away June 23, 2014, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Born October 9, 1940, he was the son of Marie (Jordan) Tate Bloom, of State College and the late Roy E. Tate, Sr. Roy graduated in 1959 from Bellefonte High School. Roy was a mechanic at Marblehead Lime and retired in 2002. He was a member of St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte, a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose 206, and the Yellow Pine Hunting Camp. He was also a member of the Pleasant Gap American Legion 867. Roy was very interested in the history of Bellefonte and was considered an amateur Bellefonte Historian. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, who enjoyed traveling and woodworking. He loved his German Shepherds: Honey, Babe, King, Prince, and Duke -- only Duke survives. Roy loved his family and friends and would do anything for anyone, so he donated his corneas to the Lions Club Eye Bank. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Robert E. Tate, Sr. (Ellen Burns), of Bellefonte; two sisters, Juanita M. Tate, of State College and Patricia A. Brown, of Dauphin; his former wife and best friend, Patricia Tate Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy E. Tate Sr.; a brother, James A. Tate; his maternal grandparents, George and Sadie Jordan; and his paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Bessie Tate. Friends will be received 10:00 a.m. until noon on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. A memorial service will follow at noon with the Rev. Father George Jakopac, officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Roy's name may be made to the , 123 Sparks Street, State College, PA 16801.
