I think of Joe so often. He was one of the kindest people Ive ever met. He was so fun to work with and a joy to be around. I have always considered him to be one of the blessings in my life. I miss him.

To the Mattivi family: I am so sorry to hear about Joe. He was a wonderful colleague and will be missed by all. We had great discussions as we worked to resolve issues that now don't seem all that dire. But, we did the job. While I never met you, please know Joe found numerous and humorous ways to bring his girls into our discussions. Be blessed and know that his life was enriched by yours and he lifted up others everyday.

Dear Cindy, Lexie, and Maddie
Please know that our prayers are with you during this time of sorrow. Cindy, Jason and I were so grateful to have you, Joe and Lexie as neighbors on Bayfield Ct. and I was privileged to work with Joe at PSU for several years. He was a wonderful and kind man. The last time I saw him I believe was in the Spring of 2013 in the Elliott Bldg. We briefly talked and laughed about old times working together in Human Resources at PSU. Now knowing the struggle he was going through at the time makes that experience even more special. I will forever remember his ability to still smile and laugh even in the midst of his struggle. Truly heartbroken to hear of his passing. I will always remember our golf outings, how he always talked about his wife and kids or his visits up to see his dad. Truly of the the few genuine good guys I have ever met. I will remember him lighting a cigar, opening a beer, setting the ball on the tee and hooking it left , then we would both laugh. A real gem and hell of a guy.

I just found out about Joe's courageous battle--he surely was blessed with all three of his girls by his side. Mattivi Family - Joe was a wonderful colleague and friend who always had a warm smile and cheerful attitude toward everyone he touched. When I would stop by Joe's office, I always loved hearing about "Cindy and the girls" as well as his golf game. We are so sorry about Joe; he battled for a long time, and was always upbeat and optimistic. Joe cared about others and was an outstanding professional at Penn State. I will miss sharing hunting stories and kidding him about Straub's beer in St. Mary's!

I hired Joe for PSU auxiliary and business services as my HR coordinator 19 years ago. It was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made. Joe was a huge asset to our dept and the entire university. I was disappointed when Joe got promoted to the presidents office but happy to see all the new lives that he touched
Joe always talked about Cindy and the girls and they were the light of his life. Joe always said. " let's see if we can find a way to make this work for all of us" He was an inspiration to us all
Cindy, Lexi and Maddie and Joe's mother ( who he also talked about ) my heart aches along with you
It will be so hard but somehow ( with Joe's spirit helping us) we will" try and make it work for all if us"
