Kimberly Davis Obituary

Kimberly Ann Davis October 28, 1971 May 11, 2015 Kimberly Ann Davis, 43, of Port Matilda, died unexpectedly on Monday evening, May 11, 2015, at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College. Born on October 28, 1971, in Middleboro, MA, she was the daughter of Cheryl Haarala Schofield of Carver, MA, and Gary Schofield, also of Carver, MA. Kim was the granddaughter of Delores Maki Haarala, the late Eero T. Haarala, and step-granddaughter of Faith Haarala. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, with a degree in Psychology. In addition to her parents and grandmother, Kim is survived by her beloved husband, Kevin C. Davis, of Port Matilda and her brother and man of honor, Mark Schofield, of Plymouth, MA. She was also loved and will be missed by many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and of course her cats. Kim, along with her business partner, Cynthia Spencer, co-owned Stitch Your Art Out in Pine Grove Mills for 12 years. Together they created a sanctuary for women to experience the fullest expression of themselves through fabric and yarn. Kim inspired hundreds of her friends to see color, light, and shape, and to lead a heart-centered, creative life. She helped to inspire everyone around her to make the world a more beautiful place. She loved working and interacting with her customers at her business. She not only taught hundreds of classes at her shop over the years, but she also was one of 30 artists who led Spectrum 2014, a 10-month online workshop on visual journaling. Last November, she published a book, "Make your Mark: A Handbook for Learning Free-Motion Quilting." Kim's works of art have been displayed in galleries around the area. She enjoyed reading, painting, gardening, fabric art and almost every creative activity. A memorial celebration of Kim's life will be held at the Millbrook Marsh Nature Center on Sunday, June 7, from 2-4 p.m. All are welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to Centre County PAWS, or to Centre Wildlife Care. An online guestbook can be signed or condolences sent to the family at www.heintzelmanfuneralhome.com.

I only just learned of Kim's passing when I got my SYAO newsletter yesterday. What a tragic loss! When I took Kim's beginning quilting class years ago she was incredibly kind and unfailingly patient with me. She continued to be so generous with her gentle guidance when I would come by the shop every so often, and she always made time to chat a while. She was amazingly talented and giving. My heart goes out to Cynthia and Kim's family--she will be sorely missed!

We have such fond memories of Kevin and Kim during their years in California (working at Intel, rafting on the American River, exploring the California coast, building our house, winetasting, hiking in Tahoe, etc.) Kevin had been our dear friend for years and when he met Kim he told us that he had found "the one" and indeed he had found his true soulmate. Kevin was the first in our family of friends to hold our newborn son Andy after he was born in 1992. We were thrilled to be a part of Kevin and Kim's wedding and to witness how happy they made each other. Kevin - you will always have an extended family here in California, we are thinking of you every day and hope to connect with you in person sometime in the near future. Remember all the good times you had with Kim and take care of yourself and know that we will always be there for you.
Love, Ken, Kathy, and Andy

Such a warm, caring, creative, beautiful person. I'll always remember when I was having trouble with a knitting project that I was about to cry and Kim said "you only cry when you stub your toe!" I just stubbed my toe. You will be greatly missed by so many.

So honored to have gotten to know Kimberly over the years and have her as a collaborative artist in the Fearless Sister project. She inspired my life and I know she inspired, and will continue to inspire, the lives of women all over the world.

So much love to Kimberly's husband, family and close friends.

As a quilt teacher, Kim, you were instrumental in helping me to expand my sense of color in selecting fabrics for my quilts. I shall miss the creative energy you brought to all the classes I took with you.
