Dale S. Bringman August 7, 1924 May 16, 2014 Dale S. Bringman, 89, of Gettysburg, died on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Gettysburg Hospital. He was born on Aug. 7, 1924, in Hanover, to the late John Monroe and Mary Jane (Shorb) Bringman. He was a graduate of Hanover High School (Eichelberger), Susquehanna University, where he also served as a member of the Board and received an honorary doctorate, and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. He served in the Army Air Corps as a Morse code operator in the south Pacific during World War II. He served as pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Harrisburg (1951 - 1956); Grace Lutheran Church in State College (1956 - 1979); and St. Peter's by the Sea Lutheran Church in San Diego, Calif. (1980 - 1994). In addition to his love of preaching, he enjoyed seeing and experiencing different places and cultures and travelled to all 50 states and six of the seven continents. He enjoyed fishing, golf, and writing. He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Mary Elizabeth (Moyer); four children, Carol Luce and husband James, of Beaver, David Bringman and wife Linda, of Alameda, Calif., Daniel Bringman and wife Lucinda, of Gettysburg, and Christine Darr and husband Todd, of Wallingford; seven grandchildren, Mark Bringman, of Mars, Kathryn Baxter, of Chicago, Ill., Ruth Gardner, of Alexandria, Va., Julie Bringman, of Washington, D.C., Jeffrey Luce, of Houston, Texas, Sarah Smith of York Springs, and Cheryl Luce of Chicago; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in the 1940s by two sisters, Thelma Bringman and Ruth Bringman. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, in the Fellowship Room of the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village, 1075 Old Harrisburg Rd., Gettysburg, PA.
