Daniel R. Leasure Daniel R. Leasure, 82, of Florence, Ala. passed away on Friday, October 11, 2013, at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence, Ala. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Dr. Leasure earned his Bachelors Degree from Westminster College, New Wilmington, and his Doctorate in Education from Pennsylvania State University in State College. For over 37 years he dedicated his life to higher education serving as Assistant Dean of Men at Penn State University and later at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. He then went on to serve as Dean of Students at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., and Assistant Vice President of Student Services at Pennsylvania State University. From there, he served as Dean of Student Affairs at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tenn. until he moved to Florence, Ala. in 1983, to take a position as Dean of Students. Before retiring in 1997, he served as Vice President for Advancement at the University of North Alabama. Those who were fortunate to have known Dr. Leasure will remember his complete dedication to his family, work, and charities. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army of Florence, a Paul Harris Fellow in the Florence Rotary Club, and recently received his 60-year Masonic pin from the New Castle Masonic Lodge. As an Elder at State College Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Florence, Dr. Leasure enjoyed serving on missionary trips and teaching Sunday School. He also enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, gardening and donating his time to help those in need. Dr. Leasure is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Dingle (John), of Catonsville, Md. and Dana Nugent (Malachy), of Washington DC; four grandchildren: Caroline, Melissa, Jamie and Julia; his adoptive mother, Elizabeth Cromer, of Mount Dora, Fla.; sister, Anita Sandler, of Miami, Fla.; brother, Harold; and many cousins; nieces; and nephews. Services were held in Florence, Ala. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Salvation Army in Dr. Leasure's memory.
