David M. Collins David Michael Collins, 45, passed away March 12, 2014. Born in Pennsylvania, Dave attended Lock Haven High School. He served for 25 years in the Navy and was a SEAL. During his career, he served in the first Gulf War, the Iraq War and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He received many commendations during his distinguished career, including a Bronze Star and a letter of recognition from Iraqi interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Blackbird Technologies. Dave was known by his friends and family as a kind soul who befriended everyone he met. He made everyone feel special and took deliberate care to look after those who were less fortunate in a myriad of ways. He was a fiercely patriotic man and believed it his duty to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. A deeply spiritual and religious man, he was honored to serve his church, Star of the Sea. Dave was an amazing father and husband and taught his children the most important lessons in life -- humility, kindness, loyalty and love. In addition to that for his wife and children, he had a deep and abiding love for his brothers in the SEAL Teams and forever had a missing piece in his heart for his fallen teammates. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer M. Collins and children, Grace and Samuel, of Virginia Beach, Va.; mother, Rose Ann McNerney and husband Lawrence, of Lock Haven; sister, Lari Ann, of Johnstown; brother, Thomas and wife Barbara and their daughter, Anna, of State College; mother- and father-in-law, Susanna and John Mullen; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Cecilia, brother-in-law, John and their spouses; nieces and nephews, all from Philadelphia; his brothers from the SEAL Teams; and a host of other family and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1404 Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach, followed by a luncheon at the church. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children of David Collins Memorial Fund c/o Navy Federal Credit Union, 1952 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454.
