George E. Schall Sr. September 2, 1938 February 14, 2014 George E. Schall Sr., 75, of Snow Shoe, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at his home. Born on Sept. 2, 1938, in Clarence, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Jozefik Schall. On July 25, 1959, in Clarence, he married Linda L. Casher who survives at home. George attended the Snow Shoe High School. He was employed at R. S. Carlin Coal Co. for over 30 years and then worked at Graymont for five years as a heavy equipment operator before retiring. He was of the Catholic faith. George was a member and past president of the Clarence Legion Post 813, a member of the Snow Shoe VFW Post 5644, Young Democratic Club in Clarence, and the Clarence Moose Club 1565. He did a lot of work at the Clarence Legion. He enjoyed tinkering around the house and working on cars. In his younger years, he enjoyed ice skating. He was an avid pool player, for which he won several trophies. He dug a lot of foundations for homes in the Mountaintop area, helped dig the hole for the Mountaintop Swimming Pool, and build the track for the Mountaintop Mud Track. He was an official umpire for the Centre County and Legion baseball leagues and was the manager for the Mountaintop Little League for many years. George is survived by his wife; children, George E. Schall Jr., of Pine Glen, and Michele L. Houtz and her husband, Scott, of Twin Falls, Idaho; six grandsons, Brett Swisher, Kurt Houtz, Cole Houtz, Taylor Houtz, George Schall, and Joshua Schall; and one great-grandson, Alexander Swisher. Also surviving are his two brothers, James Schall and his wife, Rita, of Clarence, and Edward Schall and his wife, Regina, of Clarence; two sisters, Sophie Cingle and her husband, Joseph, of Clarence, and Jane Matueur, and her husband, Harry, of Spotswood, N.J.; and three sisters-in-law, Ann Schall, of Clarence, Josephine Schall, of Clarence, and Agnes Schall, of Grassflat. Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Caldana and Theresa Rogus, and by three brothers, Joseph, John, and Stanley. Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m., the funeral home with Pastor Catherine W. Dittman officiating. Burial will be in Askey Cemetery, Snow Shoe Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Snow Shoe United Methodist Church, 501 Moshannon Ave., Snow Shoe, PA 16874. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St., Snow Shoe.
