Jason Saltman Jason Saltman, 47, of Middlebury, Vt., died peacefully in his sleep on November 22, 2013, after losing his one year battle with stomach cancer. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but grew up in Pittsburgh. He graduated from Indiana University with a doctor's degree in Optometry. Jason practiced optometry in State College for many years, until moving first to Wilmington, Vt., where he retired from his optometry practice and obtained his masters in environmental science from Green Mountain College. In Wilmington, and more recently in Middlebury, Jason worked and also volunteered his skills in such environment related fields as watershed and GPS mapping. He was an instructor at the Community College of Vermont and Mt. Snow Academy where he taught a variety of Biology, Ecology and Environmental science subjects. Jason also played a variety of stringed instruments, such as the bass, violin, guitar, and mandolin, and he enjoyed playing with blue grass bands both professionally in local business establishments, and on a pro bono basis. He leaves his loving wife of 10 years, Kim Kurak; his mother and father, Stuart and Sandy Saltman; brother Michael, sister Laura and their children. Jason wished to say thanks to Dr. Unger and his entire team, Addison County Home Health & Hospice, Brandon Medical Center and Community Health Centers of the Rutland Region. The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in Jason memory's at www.shouldertoshoulder.org and the Deerfield River Watershed Association www.deerfieldriver.org
