Kay L. Cain February 28, 1955 July 3, 2014 Kay L. Cain, 59, of rural Bellefonte, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at UPMC Region Medical Center, Altoona. She was born February 28, 1955, in Spruce Creek; the daughter of the late Carl E. and Doris J. Patterson Wheland. Ms. Cain worked as a realtor for many years in Centre County's Centre Region, most recently with Keller Williams Advantage Realty. Kay was a life member of Pleasant Gap Volunteer Fire Company, and was active in fund raising and other community events for the company. She was also a member of the Centre Pieces Quilt Guild for nearly ten years and was a past vice president and membership chairperson. She was also active in Boy and Girl Scouting programs, and was on a committee for Special Olympics Summer Games. In addition to quilting, the things she enjoyed most were camping, traveling, hunting sea shells at the beach, event planning, and Geocaching with the children. Kay is survived by her daughter, Tami and grandson Devin Cain; her husband, Robert "Mike" Carter; daughter, Sara and son, Zee Carter all of rural Bellefonte; and many cousins, aunts and uncles around the state. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Carl E. Wheland, Jr. Friends will be received from 2 - 4 p. m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. Memorial services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the family, care of Tami Cain, 910 Runville Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823 to help to defray medical and funeral expenses.
