Lee R. Kelly April 20, 1926 March 29, 2014 Lee R. Kelly, 87, a Pennsylvania native and long-time resident of Norfolk, Va., died Saturday, March 29, 2014,at the Parkside Village Senior Living Community in Westerville, Ohio, where he had lived since July 2013. Born April 20, 1926, in Boggs Township, Centre County, he was a son of the late Owen and Ella Confer Kelley. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Marian J. (Bolin) Kelly. Lee attended Bellefonte area schools and enlisted in the United States Navy on his 17th birthday, whereupon he spent the next two-plus years in the South Pacific Theater of Operations in World War II. He saw combat action in the Bougainville; Tarawa; Saipan; Guam; Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. After the war, he was home-ported in Norfolk, Va., and remained in the Navy until his retirement in January of 1964. Following his decorated Navy career, Lee worked in retail sales in the Norfolk area for a few years before embarking upon a second successful career locally as a quality-control meat inspector for the Armour Foods Company until the late 1970s. He was a member of Corinthian Lodge No. 266, Free and Accepted Masons, in Norfolk for more than 50 years, and was designated a Master Mason within that Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Glenn, Jack and Pat Kelley; and two sisters, Geraldine Abelson and Donna Neidigh. He is survived by one sister, Laura Chambers, of Harrisburg; a stepson, Larry Icenogle, his wife Mary (Linehan) of New Albany, Ohio, and their son, Scott Icenogle, of Los Angeles; and 11 nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a time and location to be announced. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Boggs Township, Centre County.
