Mary A. Shoemaker June 20, 1927 February 4, 2014 Mary A. Shoemaker, 86, of Bellefonte, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born June 20, 1927, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of Philip C. and Helen, (Ishler) Shoemaker. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Bellefonte, graduating from parochial school in 1941. While attending school there, she was May Queen. She then completed her education at Bellefonte High School, graduating in 1945. She pursued her education at Penn State University. Until her retirement, she had a long career as a bookkeeper during her employment with Wolf Furniture Company, having worked in both the Bellefonte and State College stores. Mary was most at home in her garden surrounded by her trees, flowers, and wildlife. She enjoyed traveling, theatre, attending the YMCA for many years and was known for her gracious entertaining. She is survived by numerous cousins and their extended families; her "adopted" niece and nephew, Mary Ann Cohen and her husband, Larry and John Reddecliff, his wife, Sue and their son, Jack, who grew up loving "Aunt Mardy" as well as her best friend, Janet Shuey and her husband, Mark; and her beloved dog "Toby". Additionally, she maintained close ties to cousins, Robert Hyslop and family and Joyce Banker and her son, Curtis Willar, and family. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 10, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 134 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, PA. Burial will follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Bellefonte. Visitation will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, 116 E. Bishop St., Bellefonte, PA 16823.
