Carey Lee Shoemaker September 30, 1959 - March 28, 2013 Carey Lee Shoemaker, 53, of Julian, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at The Fairways at Brookline. A son of the late Lewis M. Shoemaker and the late Barbara Shirk Shoemaker, he was born on Sept. 30, 1959, in Bellefonte. A life long resident of Centre County, Carey graduated from Penn State University with B.A. in Journalism with a minor in Political Science. During the course of his life, Carey worked with his family in the lumber industry as a logger and on the family sawmill and as a carpenter. For the last several years he was a self-employed carpenter. Since 2006, Carey was a partner in Beartown Family LP which operates Beartown Tree Farm in Snow Shoe and Union townships. Carey was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and working on conservation projects on the tree farm. He especially enjoyed grouse hunting with his beloved dog Bette. Carey is survived by his sister, Susan Benedict (Leroy); his brother, Michael Shoemaker (Connie); his three nephews, Lewis Benedict, Jacob Benedict (Jessica) and Zachary Benedict; and his special great-niece, Riley Benedict. Family and friends will be received on Friday, April 5, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 842 W. Whitehall Road, State College, PA 16801.
