E. Max Coploff October 7, 1924 December 15, 2013 E. Max Coploff, 89, of State College and formerly of Lock Haven and Woolrich, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013, at Windsor House at Snyder Memorial Health Care Center in Marienville. He was born in Lock Haven on October 7, 1924 to the late Leo and Ada Luria Coploff. Max was a 1942 graduate of Lock Haven High School, where he was active in debate, and a 1948 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. On July 3, 1947 in Philipsburg, Max married the former Shirley Jaffe who survives. During World War II, Max served as a mortar gunner in the United States Army, seeing combat in Europe after D Day. Max's grandfather, E.M. Luria, opened Luria's Women's Clothing Store in Lock Haven in 1910. After graduating from college, Max returned to Lock Haven where he worked at Luria's with his father until his father's passing in 1957. Max continued running the family business with the help of his mother for several years and his wife until their retirement in 1989. While in business, Max enjoyed regular trips to New York City to buy apparel for his business. He also greatly enjoyed traveling to destinations around the globe with his wife. After his retirement, he took several trips to sports halls of fame and sporting events with his grandson, Reid. He was a long time admirer and supporter of the arts as well as a season ticket holder to Penn State football and Lady Lions basketball. His life-long love of sports began when, as a young boy, he went to Yankees games in New York, while on business trips with his father. He also enjoyed cooking, fine dining, reading, Rob Roys, cigars, and, perhaps most importantly, Scotch. He was a member of Beth Yehuda Synagogue in Lock Haven. Max was a member of the Lock Haven Kiwanis Club for 50 years as well as a life member of the Lock Haven Elks Club. He was a board member and a volunteer for the Infant Development Program, and volunteered for SCORE in Centre County. In addition to his wife, Max is survived by three sons: Steven A. Coploff, of Irvington, N..Y, Larry E. (Mary) Coploff, of Lock Haven and Jeffrey L. Coploff, of Preston, Conn.; and five grandchildren: Dustin Coploff, T. Reid (Arielle Pacer) Coploff, Nicholas Coploff, Ava Coploff and Jack Coploff. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Beth Yehuda Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Infant Development Program of Lock Haven, 980 E. Water St., Lock Haven, PA 17745. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Donald G.
