Eugene Davis Burrell February 12, 1929 December 19, 2013 Eugene Davis Burrell was born on February 12, 1929, in State College, to George Abner Burrell and Rae Myrtle Gummo Burrell. He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant 1st Class during the Korean Conflict. On January 5, 1968, he married Shirley Ann Stover in Boalsburg. He was a member of many organizations in Pennsylvania, including the Elks Lodge and VFW, Boalsburg Fire Department, Alpha Ambulance Club, and also served as an EMT and American Red Cross First Aide Instructor. He was a retired deputy Game Warden for 22 years in Pennsylvania. Eugene was a softball umpire and played in the Harris County Senior Softball League. He and Shirley have lived in the Katy, Texas, area since June of 2001. Eugene Davis Burrell passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013, in a Houston, Texas, hospital at the age of 84 years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Burrell; children, Jan Steven and Jan Leslie Hackett, Bonnie Kay and Donald J. Horne, Linda May and David White, Tracie L. and Dean Arldt, Carol Ann and Larry Thompson, Sr., Terry Lee and Julie Hackett, and Texas Gene Burrell; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert W. Burrell. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, in Katy, Texas, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013, with Rev. Harold Fleischhauer officiating. A private burial will be at Houston National Cemetery, in Houston, Texas.
