George Spahr Obituary

George Spahr Jr. February 14, 1927 - November 19, 2010 George Spahr Jr., 83, of Boalsburg. died Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at Centre Crest. Born Feb. 14, 1927, in Newberry Township, York County, he was a son of the late George E. and Grace L. (Cousler) Spahr. George was a Navy veteran of World War II; he was discharged from Great Lakes Naval Station, Ill., in 1947. He was employed by the former Miller McVeigh Ford in State College. In 1966, he received General Motor's Legion of Leaders Award. He was a member of the Harris Township, Dover Township and Manchester Lions' Club. He is survived by a daughter, Kelly Kilmer Hall (Tom Hall), of Lyons, N.Y.; two sons; Randy (Brenda) Spahr, of Lancaster, and Doug (Phyllis) Spahr, of York County; two brothers, Barry E. Spahr (Karen), of Manheim, and Wayne R. Spahr (Pauline), of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Lorraine Nickey, of Spring City; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Luella Gurtizen; and a son, Craig Spahr (Nancy, surviving). Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at the funeral home. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Manchester Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's name may be made to the Harris Township Lions Club.
