Guy F. Bierly May 4, 1924 June 1, 2014 Guy F. Bierly, 90, of State College, died June 1, 2014, at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in the embrace of his two children. Born at home on May 4, 1924, in Loganton, he was the son of the late Russell C. Bierly and Catherine F. Bierly ,of Loganton. On March 15, 1951, he married Gloria Eileen Marshall, of McClure, who preceeded him in death on January 8, 1995. He is survived by two children. William C. Erb, of Chocowinity, N.C. and Denise M. Bierly, of State College; five grandchildren, including Jackson McDermott, Paul McDermott and Jenny Mahoney Jones, all of State College. Guy was a graduate of Sugar Valley High School in Loganton and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was active in his community, including service as a boy scout leader, a council member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Loganton, and a member of the Sugar Valley Lions Club. He also served on the boards of several community organizations. After his military service, he was a teller at the Loganton National Bank and then opened his own business in Loganton, Bierly's TV and Radio, until his retirement. Guy was well known for his musical talent. With perfect pitch, he alternately played a dozen or so musical instruments. He was a member of trios, combos and big bands, most recently playing the bass guitar in the Keystone Society of Swing. A graveside service with be held later this summer at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the animal rescue organization, Centre County PAWS, 1401 Trout Road, State College, PA, 16801 or the charity of a donor's choice.
