Nelson Ray Catherman October 12, 1928 March 10, 2013 Nelson Ray Cather-man, 84, of Pine Grove Mills, died March 10, 2013, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born Oct. 12, 1928, in Warriors Mark, he was a son of Elva S. Hanna and G. Dewey Catherman. On May 25, 1951, in Winchester, Va., he married Doris E. Ellenberger, who survives. He was a 1946 graduate of Warriors Mark School. He attended the Pittsburgh Barber College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952 in the Field Artillery Battalion. He had worked for various barbers before opening his own shop in Pine Grove Mills. He also worked at Penn State University as a locksmith and a supervisor, retiring in 1993. Nelson was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church State College, Jaffa Shrine, State College Lodge #700 Free and Accepted Masons, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Altoona Consistory Scottish Rite, Pine Grove VFW, and Pine Hall American Legion. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Daniel R. and wife, Linda, of Dells, Wis., and Edward L. and wife, Ruth (Buffy), of Boalsburg; three grandsons, Chad and Erik, of Dells, Wis., and Mason, of Boalsburg; and one brother, Wilson D. Catherman, of Warriors Mark. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Neudorff. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Bruce E. Cox Funeral Home, 3784 Warriors Mark Path, Warriors Mark, with Rev. Ed Zeiders and Rev. Eric Shafer officiating. Burial with Military Honors by Pine Grove VFW will be in Ross Cemetery. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A Masonic Service will be held Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 109 McAllister St., State College, PA 16801.
