Philip G. Emel September 3, 1923 November 5, 2013 Philip G. Emel, 90, of Bellefonte, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at James E. Van Zandt Medical Center in Altoona. Born on September 3, 1923, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Homer G. and Jeannette (Roff) Emel. On July 27, 1946, in Winchester, Va., he married Doris E. Shutt, who survives at home. He attended the Bellefonte School System. Philip worked as an Inspector for Cerro Copper and Brass until his retirement. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army. For his services he received the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Services Medal with 6 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. He was a member of the Milesburg Baptist Church, and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars # 1600 and Bellefonte American Legion Post #33. Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jeannette Confair, of Coburn and Sharon Spicer, of Centre Hall; and one son, Gary G. Emel, of Unionville. Also surviving are three sisters, Mary Cingle, of Clarence, Barbara Bathurst, of Curtin and Susan Hillard, of Moshannon; by three brothers, Homer Emel, of Milesburg, Ed Emel, of Bellefonte and Steve Emel, of South Carolina; also seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Ishler; three brothers, Richard and David Emel and Larry Quay; and his step-mother, Betty Emel. The funeral service will be held Friday, November 8, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte, PA, with Rev. B. Jeffrey Trawinski officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602 or the Milesburg Baptist Church, 110 Market St., Milesburg, PA 16853.
