Ruth E. Fohringer November 24, 1924 August 13, 2013 Ruth E. Fohringer (nee Lovett), 88, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at the Fairways at Brookline in State College. Ruth was born in Milesburg to the late Violet M. Fetzer on Nov. 24, 1924. She graduated from the State College High School in 1942 and attended classes at Pennsylvania State University. In Ruth's late teens and early 20's, she worked as a waitress at The Corner Room and a clerk at Egolf's. In June 1947, she married the late Elwood F. Fohringer . Ruth was a lifelong active member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She also served many years as Secretary for Potter Township. Ruth's hobbies included watching PSU football, PSU basketball, Steelers football, and Pirates baseball, but more important to Ruth was her devotion to her family. Her biggest joys were gained by spending time with family members. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood F. Fohringer; her mother, Violet M. Fetzer; and sister, Edna E. Yearick. Ruth is survived by her four children: Rebecca L. Slenker and her husband, Joseph, of Centre Hall; Timothy E. Fohringer and his wife, Suzan, of Millheim; Susan R. Baker and her husband, Obed, of Baltimore, Md.; and Jeffrey L. Fohringer, of Potters Mills; three grandchildren, Amy J. Slenker-Smith and her husband, Stephen, of Oak Hill, Va.; Derek E. Long, of Denver, Colo.; and Cara R. Long, of Baltimore, Md.; two great grandchildren, Andrew D. Long and Zachary R. Smith; and two step-grandchildren, Christopher D. Baker and Katherine Baker. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and had special relationships with nieces: Patty Yearick, Fran Polanec, Dottie Yukish, and special friend, Rose Yudiskas. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services on Friday, August 16, 2013, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. Funeral Services will begin at 12 p.m., Friday, from the funeral home, with the Reverend F. Jeffrey Mugridge officiating. Interment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
