Terry Wentz Obituary

Terry L. Wentz June 4, 1947 - May 30, 2010 Terry L. Wentz, 62, of Hollidaysburg, died May 30, 2010, at Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring. Born June 4, 1947, he was the son of the late David and Ethel (Deardorff) Wentz. He graduated from South Western High School in 1965 and from Penn State in 1969, with a degree in forestry. He worked for Canoe Creek State Park for more than 30 years, retiring as Park Manager in 2005. He went on to found Waxwing Associates. During the Vietnam War, Terry served in the U.S. Army as a dog handler with the 1st Cavalry Division. He married Debbie Haine on July 31, 1999 in Hick's United Methodist Church in Duncansville. A member of the board of directors of Rails to Trails of Central PA and the past president of Juniata Audobon Society, Terry's interests included the outdoors, landscaping for wildlife and the environmental center at Canoe Creek State Park, which is in the process of being named after him. He belonged to First United Methodist Church in Hollidaysburg. In addition to his wife, Terry is survived by two sons, Ben, of State College, and Dan, of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Larry D., and his wife Joyce, of Hanover, and Darryl, and his wife Winnie, of Dillsburg; and his first wife, Barbara Hershey. Visitations will be from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Hollidaysburg. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Dr. D.L. Brinton Shafer officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Rails to Trails of Central PA or Juniata Valley Audubon Society.
