Gail Louise Leightley September 22, 1943 November 4, 2013 Gail Louise Leightley, 70, of Sunbury, died November 4, 2013. She was born in Centre Hall on September 22, 1943, the daughter of Helen Martz and Harold Leightley, both deceased. She was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Sheila and Frank Leightley. Gail is survived by her sisters, Joanne Knupp, Mary Jecha and Helen Storms; her sons, Robert and Daniel Sweeney; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Gail graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1961. She earned a BS in Community Planning and a Masters in Business Administration from Penn State University. It was her passion to make the world a better place. She worked with children, families, elders and the disabled in a variety of social services. She was a Professor at Penn State, a Chaplain at Geisinger Medical Center, and Director of the ARC of Susquehanna Valley. Gail was active in local politics as a member of the Democratic Party. She worked to promote recycling and sustainable community development. Gail's lifelong interest in spiritual learning led to co-founding meditation and spiritual study groups with various organizations including the Unity Church. Her hobbies included travel, ghost hunting, collecting 18th century art, 19th and 20th century poetry along with activities with her family. Memorial Services will be held in the community room at the Zion Lutheran Church,15 N. 5th St., Sunbury, PA 17801 on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at 6 p.m. and at the St. John's Lutheran Church, 2010 McAllister St., Bellefonte, PA 16823 on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. Donations are being accepted in lieu of flowers at the ARC of Susquehanna Valley, 15 N. 5th St., Sunbury, PA 17801, (570) 286-1008.
