Johnson, Lydia B.
Lydia B. Johnson CHARLESTON - December 20, 1915 to April 19, 2015. 99 years young! Lydia Johnson, or Big Lydia as we called her, was the best lady anyone ever met. She never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. She lived life to the fullest with lots of energy, happiness and no regrets! Big Lydia was born in Kingstree, SC and moved to Charleston in the early '50's. Married to Herbert W. Campbell, they had a wonderful son, Charlie. Herbert passed at a young age leaving Lydia a widow at age 40. She was employed at the American Tobacco Company for 30 years as an Administrative Assistant. She met her second husband, Odell Clark, there, married him and shared 15 happily married years together. Odell passed leaving Big Lydia a widow again! She took a job at Otis Elevator where she worked for 15 years. At age 72, she retired and married John Johnson, who was the love of her life. They shared 20 fun-filled years together. Big Lydia was a charter member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church and an active member of the Eastern Star. Lydia is survived by her granddaughters, Beth Cook (John) and Debi Scott and great-grandchildren, Lydia and Matthew. Big Lydia loved life and her family. She thanked God every morning and prayed every night. She always thanked the Lord for her good health and fabulous life! If you were lucky enough to have met her in life, please join the family at The James A. McAlister Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Wednesday April 22, 2015, for her Funeral Service. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. on Wednesday one hour prior to Service.
