Josie Lee Baxley N. CHARLESTON - Josie Lee Baxley, 91, widow of Rubin Franklin Baxley, of N. Charleston, SC, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at her residence. The visitation for Mrs. Baxley will be held Sunday evening, January 25, 2015 from 6 - 8 o'clock at PARKS FUNERAL HOME. Flowers will be accepted. The funeral service and burial will be private. Josie was born September 3, 1923 in Elloree, SC, a daughter of D. D. Jones and Mable Thompson Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of Charleston Heights Baptist Church. She also loved flowers and was an avid gardener. Survivors include three daughters, Shirley B. Murray, Patricia A. Moore, and Gloria J. Satery; one son, Rubin F. Baxley, Jr.; one sister, Tiney Grooms; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Baxley was predeceased by two sisters, Lillymae and Annabell; two brothers, Buddy Jones and Jim (Auther) Jones, and one son, Jeffery A. Baxley. Hazel Lee Martin Bearden MT. PLEASANT - Hazel Lee Martin Bearden, 77, the widow of Clarence "Ben" Presley Bearden, died January 24, 2015 at her home in Mt. Pleasant. A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, January 25, 2015 at J HENRY STUHR INC., MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 at 11:00 am followed by entombment at Mt Pleasant Memorial Gardens at 12:00 pm. Hazel was born September 24, 1937 the daughter of the late James and Victoria Rabon Martin. She loved to cook for her family and was an avid fisherwoman, "Fishy fishy in a brook won't you please bite Hazel's hook."Hazel was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Staffet with the Directors' Staff. Her favorite boutiques were Goodwill and yard sales and shared with her family and friends. Her family includes her step-son Clarence "Chuck" P. Bearden, Jr., his wife Cindy, their daughter Tiffney and grandchildren and she was like a mother to Vicky Lynn Richter and her children: Becka Richter, Michael Richter and Darby Richter and their children. Special thanks to her nieces and nephews: Janet Gillam and her sons, James Gillam and Aaron Gillam; Tina and Ricky Martin and their children, Nicholas Martin, Jenna Hardee and Zachary Martin; Timmy Martin and his children, Josh Velazquez, Jonathan Velazquez, Joe Velazquez, Tina Reguli and Kim Huger; thank you to her very good friends Woody and Linda Crosby and thank you to her caregivers at Already HomeCare and Amedisys Hospice. Blakely Sr., Richard Jaudon  
Richard Jaudon Blakely, Sr. KINGSTREE, SC - Mr. Richard Jaudon "Dickie" Blakely, Sr., 83, husband of Joyce Currier Blakely, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015, at Grand Strand Hospital, in Myrtle Beach. Mr. Blakely was born March 18, 1931, in Lane, a son of the late Thomas A. Blakely, Sr. and Rheta Derrick Blakely. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and attended University of Maryland. Mr. Dickie was a member of Lane Methodist Church, Kingstree Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Shriner, Moose Lodge and VFW. Mr. Blakely retired in 1971 at the rank of Master Sergeant after 23 years from the U.S. Air Force and received numerous awards. In 1965, he was awarded The Certificate for the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge for performance and loyalty to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In 1968, he was awarded the D.O.D Joint Service Commendation Award for his service with the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, DC. In 1971, he was awarded Medal for Meritorious Service with the Southern Command from 1968 to 1971. Surviving in addition to his wife, Joyce C. Blakely, are: a daughter, Jane (Ricky) Burrows, of Kingstree; a son, Richard J. (Linda) Blakely, Jr., of Kingstree; a sister, Mary Florence Geddings, of James Island; grandchildren, Richard J. (Kim) Blakely III, Kristen B. (Jeremy) Gilchrist; great grandchildren, Richard J. Blakely IV and Elizabeth Gilchrist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas A. Blakely, Jr. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 26, 2015, in Williamsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Blevins, Deborah Anderson  
Deborah Anderson Blevins MT. PLEASANT - Debbie was born in Charleston, SC to Arthur E. Anderson, Jr. and Sylvia Jones Anderson on August 3, 1954. Debbie was the eldest of seven children, and was the matriarch of the family. She attended parochial schools and graduated from Bishop England in 1972. Upon graduation, she went on to USC and became a lifelong proud Gamecock! While a student, her father helped her get a start in the multifamily apartment business. She embarked on a career that led her back to Charleston and eventually to Houston in the early 80's. Over the next two decades, she went on to become a partner and Executive Vice President of the Hudson Group which later merged with JMG Realty of Atlanta and Houston. The company today owns and manages thousand of apartment units throughout the Southeast. Debbie and her family moved back to Charleston in 1999 and she eventually retired to spend more time with her greatest joy, her children, Elizabeth, Austin, Hillary and Beau. Debbie loved to entertain, shop, and renovate houses. She traveled extensively but always said her favorite place was her little cottage on Sullivan's Island. Debbie is survived by her mother, Sylvia Anderson Lantz and her husband (The Rev. John Lantz) of Mt. Pleasant; daughters, Elizabeth Aisling Wolter(Blake), of Clemson, SC; Hillary B. Deegan (Chris), of Charleston; two sons, Austin Anderson Blevins, of Charleston; and Beau Blevins, of Charlotte, NC; Wyatt Ball (Whom she considered a son), of Sullivan's Island; two sisters, Tricia Anderson, of Mt. Pleasant, Susan Jones, of Bangkok, Thailand; sister-in-law, Jeryl Anderson, of Bernardsville, NJ; three brothers, Kenny Anderson (Dee), of Spring, TX; Tommy Anderson (April), of Mt. Pleasant; and Richard Anderson (Liz), of Mt. Pleasant. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and spoiled badly! And her five closest friends, Mary Ann, Pat, Pam, Anna, and Melinda. She was predeceased by her Father, Arthur E. Anderson, Jr., one brother, Arthur E. Anderson, III, and a nephew, Michael Thomas Anderson. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Mt. Pleasant Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of the Holy Cross, Sullivan's Island, on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Rev. John Burwell officiating. Britt, Roy Franklin  
Roy Franklin Britt ST. GEORGE, SC - Roy F. Britt, 69, passed from this earthly life, with the Faith to enter into Eternal Heavenly life, on Friday, January 23, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Harleyville on April 30, 1945 a son of the late Johnny F. and Grady Wagers Britt. He was a retired employee of Gifford-Hill Cement Company and had his own plumbing business for a number of years. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of Harleyville Southern Methodist Church where he was a part of the Bus Ministry. Roy was member and Past Master of Egeria Lodge #71, the Scottish Rite, Omar Shrine Temple and Harido Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, where he had served on the Arc-en-ciel Rainbow Girls Advisory Board. Roy was the Father of two loving sons: Roy S. Britt and Darren F. Britt (Jean), a grandson, Porter R. Britt and a granddaughter, Ellis P. Britt, whom he loved dearly. Roy is survived by a very special friend of over 16 years, Ms Debbie Dantzler her children, Angie Infinger (Curtis) and Kevin Dantzler (Jennifer). Mr Britt also has a loving family of: two sisters, Susie Wannamaker (J.R. Dec), Sadie Weathers (Mick); two brothers, Teddy Britt (Nancy), Dannie Wagers (Vonnie); half-sister, Reba Ahl; half-brothers, Frankie Britt, Kent Britt (Gloria), Tony Britt (Betty); step-brother, L.B. Wolfe (Betty) and many nieces , nephews and friends. He was predeceased by: two brothers, Ellison Britt (Lynette), Eddie Britt (Karen); two step-brothers, Homer Wolfe (Peggy) and Terrell Wolfe; and, step-mother, Reva Britt. We kindly request "No Flowers" as there will be no funeral service. Family and friends are welcomed to attend a visitation Sunday from 3:00-5:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home with a Masonic Rites beginning at 4:00 PM. Ila Mae Coursen Caldwell HUDDLESTON, VA - Ila Mae Coursen Caldwell passed away peacefully on January 14, 2015 while surrounded by family in Huddleston, VA. She is predeceased by her mother Ila Ruth Coursen and father Clarence "Duke" Coursen, of Scranton, PA. Her sister, Marjorie Palumbo lives in Scranton. She leaves behind 2 daughters and their husbands Laura and Howard Whitcomb of Brooks, Maine, Ila and Tom Bayrer of Huddleston, VA; son, Douglas Caldwell of Littleton, CO. She has one grandson, Joshua Whitcomb and wife Kathryn, of Kentucky. Ila Mae loved people and spent her life making friends, acquaintances and family feel welcome, wanted and "at home". As a school librarian she encouraged many young people to enjoy a good book: She ALWAYS had one in her tote bag! She was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church (843-871-0280). Memorial services will be held there on Friday January 30, 2015 at 12 noon. Committal will be in Pennsylvania at a later date. Phyllis Elizabeth Clayton GIVHANS, SC - Phyllis Elizabeth Clayton, 75, of Givhans, wife of James M. Clayton, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at White Oak Manor. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 2 o'clock PM at Givhans Southern Methodist Church, 1553 Highway 61, Ridgeville. Burial will follow at Cummings Chapel Cemetery, 137 Cummings Chapel Road, Ridgeville. Phyllis was born on May 17, 1939 in Dorchester, SC daughter of the late Thomas Phillip Campbell and Alice (Whetsell) Campbell. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Southern Magnolia Garden Club. She also enjoyed reading and shopping for antiques. Her love of baking was enjoyed by her entire family. Phyllis was a member as well as the organist of Givhans Southern Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to her husband James are: five children: Debbie Strickland (Mark) of Givhans, Beth Volk of Givhans, Kathy Reece (Mike) of Charleston, Rene Dizon (Jon) of Charleston and Jamie Clayton (Kim) of Givhans; 14 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister: Joyce Cancro of Charleston. Patsy was born on March 27, 1937 in Summerville, SC, daughter of the late Ashley Droze and Gaynell (Hales) Droze. She enjoyed gardening, working with her church and visiting with friends. She retired from Wheeler Industries as an assistant manager. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Surviving are: two sons: Charles "Bucky" M. Dunsil, Jr. and Jeffrey Dunsil, both of Summerville; four grandchildren: Matt, Jessica, Jeffrey and Jeremy; several great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters: Betty Jo "BJ" Hunter (Jim) of Summerville, Peggy Boreck (Jim) of Michigan, Jimmy Droze (Sharon) of Summerville, Ashley Droze, Jr. (Judy) of Summerville, Miriam Droze of Summerville, Terri Droze of Summerville and Shane Droze of Summerville; several nieces and nephews.
