Phyllis Jackson Bonneau Beach, SC - Phyllis Wesson Jackson, 79, of Bonneau Beach, SC, a retired receptionist, died Monday morning in a local nursing home. Her memorial service will be 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon, June 25, 2016, in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 AM until the hour of service Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd., N. Charleston, SC 29406. Mrs. Jackson was born June 27, 1936, in West Palm Beach, FL, a daughter of Joseph P. Wesson and Margaret Cronk Wesson. She enjoyed doing ceramics, gardening, cross stitching, and also working at the Main Street Sampler in Summerville. Mrs. Jackson was an animal lover, but was especially fond of her two pets, Courtney and Tiffany. She was a very compassionate and nonjudgmental person who loved Sunday dinners with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Phyllis Diane Martinez. Surviving are, two sons, Robert R. "Bobby" Jackson, Jr., and his fiance;, Renee, of Hurley, MS, and Walter W. Jackson and his wife, Alice, of Bonneau Beach; a son-in-law, Rogelio Martinez of Charleston; four grandchildren, Brianna Jackson, Alex Jackson, Kenny Weatherford, and Danny Weatherford; and four great grandchildren, Blake, Bryson, Will, and MaryBeth. Terry Jernigan St. Stephen, SC - Terry Medlin Jernigan, 58, of St. Stephen, SC, a former office manager for Nationwide Insurance Company, died Thursday at her residence. Her memorial service will be 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in the CHAPEL OF DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:30 PM until the hour of service. Mrs. Jernigan was born December 3, 1957, in Kingstree, SC, a daughter of Joseph Alex Medlin, Jr., and Shirley Brassell Medlin Brassell. She enjoyed photography, making floral arrangements, painting ceramics, playing the keyboard, listening to gospel music, fishing, and flower gardening. Mrs. Jernigan was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Miles Jernigan. Surviving are, her husband, R. Miles Jernigan; her mother of St. Stephen; two sons, Chris M. Jernigan and his wife, Kelly, of St. Stephen, and A. Scott Jernigan of Moncks Corner; a sister, Rosalie Chung of St. Stephen; Joe A. Medlin, III, of Ft. Jerome "Jerry" Durham Knight Adams Run, SC - Jerome Durham Knight, 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Sandra Jean Hutchins Knight, entered into eternal rest Thursday, June 23, 2016. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Jerome was born December 23, 1934 in Harleyville, South Carolina, son of the late Arlee Knight and Maude Weathers Knight. He was a US Army Veteran and a retired Electrician with the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Jerome is survived by his wife of Adams Run, SC; daughter, Charlotte K Grimes of Charleston, SC; three sons: Charles Knight (Alyssa Domings) of Adams Run, SC; Jerome Knight (Sandy Burnett) of Summerville, SC; Ronald Knight (Claudia) of NJ; six sisters: May K Day, Thelma Knight, Frances Ardis, Dot Smith, Catherine Reeves (Leclair) and Marie Weathers; two brothers: James Knight and Wallace Knight Dicksie; eight grandchildren: Caleb Knight, Calabell Knight, Savannah Bryan, Christina Bryan, Rebecca Bryan, Colzy Knight, Victoria Knight and Kylie Knight. Leonard, Father Eugene  
Father Eugene Leonard CHARLESTON - Father Eugene Leonard, a retired priest of the Diocese of Charleston, South Carolina, died peacefully in his sleep on June 20, 2016. He was born February 19, 1926, in Oahu Hawaii. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Renee (Andre) and Eugene Leonard; sister, Helen Leonard; and brother- in- law, Edward J. Anderson. He is survived by: his sister, Mary Helen (Leonard) Anderson; and his six nieces and nephews, Mary Ann Read (husband Victor), Patrick Anderson (wife Stacey), Michael Anderson, Eileen Fischer (husband Michael), Ellen "Katie" Miller (husband Tony), and Edward Anderson (wife Christy); as well as 12 great-nieces and nephews. Father Gene was a product of Catholic grade school and became an altar server as soon as he was old enough. He attended Catholic University, St. Jerome's College, Notre Dame University, and Holy Cross College. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Father Gene joined the Navy on February 1, 1944, where he served as a Medic. He was one of the first Americans to survey the damage at Hiroshima to assess the casualties. Following his service in the Navy, Father Gene went to work as an Engineer at General Electric, but soon realized this was not to be his calling. Fr. Gene was ordained in the Priesthood on June 4, 1966 in the Diocese of Richmond, Virginia. He served as Associate Pastor in Virginia at St. Marys (Hampton), St. Brigets (Richmond), St. Charles (Arlington), St. Michaels (Annandale), St. Bernadettes (Springfield), St. Mary (Alexandria), Blessed Sacrament (Alexandria), Nativity (Burke), then as Pastor to St. Vincent de Sales in Kilmarnock, VA, and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Lake Ridge, VA. From there, he went on to Charleston, SC to St. John the Baptist and then to Pastor Jesus, Our Risen Savior in Spartanburg, SC, until "Retirement" on December 31, 2001. In addition to these Pastoral assignments, he served on various Diocesan Boards and Committees and was a life-long activist of Prison Ministry. Fr. Gene was known for his zeal in life and loved a good debate, especially over a fine glass of wine. He was a life-long sports enthusiast, participating as well as cheering on his favorite teams, especially Notre Dame, and was an avid outdoorsman, history and trivia buff, and dog lover. He will be deeply missed. Fr. Gene requested any memorial gifts to be made to Doctors Without Borders, or a local Prison Ministry of your choice. Funeral Mass will be held in Tulsa, OK, at the Church of Saint Mary, 10:00 AM, on Saturday, June 25. Memorial Masses will be held at the Church of the Risen Savior in Spartanburg, SC, at various times (please contact the Parish office for details).
