Alma Colleen Williams SUMMERVILLE - Alma Colleen Williams passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2012, in Summerville, SC. She was born March 5, 1924 in Dillon, SC, the daughter of the late Percy Lloyd Williams and Alma Roberts Williams. She graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, SC in 1945 and later earned a master's degree from Peabody College at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. Miss Williams taught English in Charleston for six years at St. Andrew's Parish before moving to Brunswick, GA, where she taught an additional thirty years in the Glynn County public schools. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School Class, Brunswick, for fifty-eight years. Miss Williams was selected as an Outstanding Educator in America, has served as president of University Women of Brunswick and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Beta Sigma Phi sororities. She lived in St. Simons Island, GA, before relocating to South Carolina in June, 2009, to be closer to her family. Miss Williams resided at the Presbyterian Community in Summerville. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and attended services at the chapel at the Village of Summerville. Miss Williams is survived by an aunt, Connie Williams Bradley, of Midlothian, VA and a number of cousins. She is also survived by her adopted sister, Marjorie, and the late George Thomas of St George and Mrs. Thomas' children and their spouses, Donna and Bruce Thomas of St George, Ellen and Roger Nance of Atlanta, GA, Anne and Chip Price of Athens, GA, and Joye and Rob Davis of Charleston, and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 9 at the Lola Johnston Memorial Chapel at the Presbyterian Village of Summerville with Reverend Achim Daffin officiating. Miss Williams' family will receive friends at 1:00 pm at the Village of Summerville prior to the service. A graveside service will take place at 3:45 pm, at the St. George Cemetery, 5668 Jim Bilton Blvd., St. George. The family invites you to join them for a reception immediately following the burial at the home of Marjorie Thomas, 557 Mt. Zion Rd., St. George. Friends may call at the Thomas residence at other times, as well.
