Charles Richard Llewellyn

Charles Richard Llewellyn N. CHARLESTON - Charles "Chuck" Richard Llewellyn, husband of Gail Douglas Llewellyn, entered into eternal rest on December 12, 2012 after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Residence, The Elms, North Charleston, SC. Mr. Llewellyn was born October 28, 1934 in Shamokin, PA, son of the late Charles Levi Llewellyn and Letha Berry Llewellyn. He attended Shamokin High School where he excelled in wrestling and football. He joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955, and after receiving an Honorable Discharge, he joined the Air Force Reserve for seven years. Charles married the former Gail Diane Douglas in 1955. They spent 26 years living in Hanahan, SC. In 1991 they moved to Yonges Island on the Toogoodoo River where he enjoyed boating, fishing, crabbing, shrimping and gardening for the next 15 years. While living on Yonges Island, he was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. During his years on Yonges Island he belonged to the St. Paul's Exchange Club and served as president of The Lems Bluff Homeowners Association. Chuck retired from the Polaris Missile Facility Atlantic (POMFLANT) in 1993 as Engineering Technician Quality Assurance. He served as chairman of the Audit Committee on the Chief Engineer's Staff at the time of his retirement. From 1972-75 he was the owner of Checkmate, Ltd. mens clothing stores. He was a life member of Charleston Elks Lodge #242 where he served as Exalted Ruler in years 1981-1982. He served for 4 years as Trustee and volunteered for many committees. Charles is survived by his wife, Gail D. Llewellyn; one daughter, Linda Llewellyn Johnson and her partner Gregg Levkus; two grandsons, John Douglas Llewellyn and Cameron Sterling Johnson and his wife Shannon; great grandson, Creedence Roy Johnson; step-great-granddaughter, Addyson Newman; daughter-in-law, Linda Llewellyn; son-in-law, Roy Johnson; nephew, Frank Venarchick and his wife Marie of Douglassville, PA; and special "son" Cal Johnson. He was predeceased by his parents; his son, Charles "Chuck" R. Llewellyn, Jr.; six sisters; and two brothers. A memorial service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Sunday, December 16, 2012, at 4:00 pm. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's Northwoods Chapel on Sunday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service.
