Following his discharge in 1945, Judge Singletary continued his education at the University of Michigan Law School, receiving his LL.B. Degree in 1948. He returned to Charleston and began the practice of law. He met Pollie Obear Lacour of Atlanta, Ga., and they were married in August, 1950. Pleasant for 4 years in the early 1950's, and taught Law for a time at the Citadel. Judge Singletary attended the National College of State Trial Judges in 1964, and returned in 1970 to serve as a Faculty Advisor. He was a member of The Society of Barristers, Phi Delta Phi Fraternity, and the US Coast Guard Reserves. He was a member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church and the Carolina Yacht Club. Judge Singletary is survived by his wife of Moncks Corner; two daughters, Kathryn H. Singletary and Judith S. Lanier, both of Moncks Corner; two grandchildren, James Mitchell Lanier, Jr., and his wife, Kristen, of Moncks Corner; and Clarence Edward "Clay" Singletary, III, of Charleston; and one great-grandchild, James Mitchell Lanier, III; also a host of loving nieces, nephews cousins around the world.
