Clarence "Ben" P. Bearden MT. PLEASANT - CPO Clarence "Ben" Presley Bearden, USN, Ret., 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Hazel Lee Martin Bearden passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. All services will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Ben was born October 4, 1930 in South Carolina, son of the late James Mason and Mae Bearden. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, and was retired from the Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital. He was an active member of the Fort Moultrie Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and the Omar Shrine where he served on the Director's Staff. Ben was also a member of The Royal Order of Jesters, American Legion 112, and the VFW. He was often known as "Gentle Ben" for his way of making life-long friends. He loved spending time with his Masonic brothers and sharing stories of his time in the Navy and how he met Hazel. Never saying a harsh word about anyone, Ben simply loved people and being with them. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Hazel Lee Martin Bearden; his son, Clarence "Chuck" Bearden of Green Cove Springs, FL; and his grandchild and great great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in Ben's memory to the Shriners Children's Hospital, c/o Omar Shrine, 176 Patriots Point Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Visit our guestbook at charleston
