Donna Jean "DJ" Cyr LEXINGTON, SC - Donna Jean "DJ" Cyr, a former Purdue University beauty queen, was born on January 30, 1924, in Gary, IN and entered heaven on the morning of Sunday, December 29, 2013. She spent most of her adult life in the Washington, DC area. DJ worked at the CIA and, later, the Smithsonian Institute. She had a flair for entertaining and decorating, but her sparkling sense of humor was her most engaging asset, apparent right up until her death. She was friendly to all she encountered-truly a people-person. Although a world traveler, she loved the SC coast and considered the best time of her life living in Mt. Pleasant, SC. While there, she volunteered at the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League; East Cooper Community Outreach; Meals on Wheels; the USO; and the historic Old Exchange Building in Charleston. In her spare time, you could find her riding her bike on the Isle of Palms or Sullivan's Island, when she wasn't throwing a lavish party at Simmons Pointe. She moved to the Columbia area to spend her later years near her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Paul, a highly decorated OSS war hero, and son, Patrick. She is survived by her sons, Tom and Mike; her daughter, Sue Amick; sister, Pat Grossman; favorite cousin, Joan; devoted son-in-law, Bill; best friend, Bettye; seven grandchildren and three great-grandsons. The family would like to thank the amazing staffs of Southern Care Hospice; Oakleaf Village of Lexington; and Tidewater Hospice, as well as all of her loving friends and neighbors. A private family memorial will be held later on Sullivan's Island. In lieu of flowers, donations in "DJ's" name may be made to Cure Alzheimer's Fund or to Cherokee Presbyterian Church, 3347 Augusta Rd., Gilbert, SC 29054. Visit our guestbook at charleston
