Elizabeth Hetrick SUMMERVILLE - Elizabeth Aston Ray Hetrick, a long-time resident of Walterboro, entered eternal life on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Village in Summerville Retirement Home where she had lived for the last two years. Mrs. Hetrick, age 90, was born on August 20, 1922, in Stamford, Connecticut and was the only child of the late Frances Whittaker Ray and John Andrew Ray. Mrs. Hetrick graduated from Stamford High School. She graduated from Simmons College in Boston where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1944 and from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York where she obtained a Master of Science Degree in Library Science in 1974. Mrs. Hetrick was married on March 30, 1946, in Stamford, Connecticut to the late Richard Replogle Hetrick. She was a long-time, former resident of Hampton, South Carolina where she taught high school English and where she also taught in the elementary school. Later, she moved to Bainbridge, New York, where she worked as a high school librarian before retiring with her husband to Walterboro in 1982. Her work as a teacher was one of her proudest achievements. Mrs. Hetrick was a member of St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Walterboro. Also, she was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of Colonial Dames, the Colleton County Historical Society, and the Colleton County Fine Arts Society. Surviving Mrs. Hetrick are her son, John Ray Hetrick and wife Nancy Dopson Hetrick of Walterboro, a grand-daughter, Aston Hetrick Moody and husband Kyle Milledge Moody of Irmo, South, a grand-daughter, Meagan Hetrick Smoak and husband Gerald Clarence Smoak, III of Greenville, South Carolina, and a great grandson, John Milledge Moody of Irmo, South Carolina. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro. Visitation will be at the funeral home from six to eight in the evening on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St Jude's Episcopal Church in Walterboro with interment following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
