Nicanora Barroso HANAHAN - Nicanora "Nora" Barroso, age 87, of Hanahan SC, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 6th 2012 at her residence. She was born in Pasig-Rizal, Philippines on January 10th 1925 to the late Bernado Umali and Agapita Banaag Umali. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a wonderful cook. Nora was a teacher in the Division of City Schools in Manila, Philippines for more than 20 years. She later worked as a social worker in New York City. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and a member of Our Lady of Fatima prayer group. She was a member of the Filipino Community Center, Moncks Corner. Nora is survived by her daughter: Maria Corazon of New York; sisters: Priscilla Sta. Cruz of New York, and Agnes Rueca of New York; brothers: Rodolfo Umali of Marlboro NJ, Mario Umali of Japan, and Macario Umali of the Philippines; nephew: Bobby Gapud of Charleston; grandchildren: Christine and Leah. She was preceded in death by her husband: Reynaldo Barroso, and her son: GB Barroso. Funeral will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 10th 2012 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue Goose Creek, SC 29445. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sunday, December 9th 2012 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.
