Russell Kuritz AWENDAW - Dr. Russell S. Kuritz, 60, of Awendaw, SC, a retired Periodontist died July 30, 2011 at his residence. Russell Shoffner Kuritz was born on February 24, 1951 in Little Rock, AR, the son of the late Dr. Albert B. Kuritz and Evelyn S. Kuritz. He was an outstanding athlete at James Island High School and played college football at the University of South Carolina. He graduated from MUSC Dental School and did he periodontal training at the Medical College of Georgia. He practiced Periodontics in the Charleston area. Russ will always be remembered as a very kind, caring, and loving person. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved shrimping, fishing, flounder gigging and hunting. His love of nature sustained him throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include a daughter, Jane K. Gibson (John) of Charleston, SC; his mother Evelyn Kuritz of James Island; a brother David Kuritz of James Island; two sisters Gail Howard (L.K.) of Charleston, SC, Sheila Kuritz of Sullivan's Island; and many nieces and nephews. Russ was preceded in death by his father the late Dr. Albert B. Kuritz. Per the families request all services and burial will be private.
