The relatives and friends of Stanley Levy are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at ten o'clock in J. Henry Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Mr. Levy was born February 1, 1927, in an apartment over his family's shoe store in Elizabeth, New Jersey, son of the late Isadore Levy and Rose Ort Levy. Stanley joined the U.S. Army where he was a code interpreter during WWII and also attended Rutgers University. After serving in the Army he took over and expanded the family business, which at the time became the first discount shoe store in New Jersey. His slogan was "Better Shoes For Less Money." Shoppers traveled long distances to buy from Stanley at First Street in Elizabeth, NJ. Many customers were so charmed by Stanley's humor and salesmanship, that they purchased stacks of shoes at one time. Stanley grew his single shoe store into a small family owned chain, with locations in South Orange, Sayreville, Livingston, East Brunswick, Millburn, and Union, NJ. He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Bixler and her husband George of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Seth Levy and his wife Heidi of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Steve Levy and Susan Saferstein of Burington, VT; seven grandchildren, Emily Levy, Isaac Levy, David Bixler, Samuel Kunitz-Levy, Eleanor Kunitz-Levy, Heather Bixler, and Jayson Bixler; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle Blankenbaker and Rowen Bixler. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Ann Sevrin Levy and a sister Doris Levy. Stanley wore a size 9-narrow shoe and bore a striking resemblance to Frank Sinatra. Memorials may be made to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund, Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim, 90 Hasell St., Charleston, SC 29403.
