Patricia Schnipper Francis SEABROOK ISLAND - Patricia Joan Schnipper Francis, 86, of Seabrook Island, South Carolina, died Friday, September 13, 2013 after a short illness with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert L. Francis; her two daughters, Jill Francis Michaels and Robin Francis Rankin; and seven grandchildren; Katie, Leslie, and twins Mary and Patrick Michaels of Waco, TX and Grayson, Parker and Colin Rankin of Dallas, TX. She was affectionally known as "Patty" to family and friends. Pat was born and raised in Belleville, Illinois. She attended the University of Illinois on a full academic scholarship. She married her husband, Robert Francis on September 4, 1949. They raised their daughters in Middletown, Ohio and retired to Seabrook Island in 1991. Patty taught Junior and High School level Spanish, German, and English in the Middletown Public School System for eight years. During her years at Seabrook, she returned to her love of teaching and served as a volunteer tutor at several of Johns Island schools. She loved playing tennis and was active in both Middletown and Seabrook Island tennis clubs. In Middletown she coached the Verity Middle School Boys Tennis team and led them to a city championship. She was also proud to be a member of Seabrook Island's Ladies 3.0 tennis team which brought home a state championship from Hilton Head in 1997. Pat was an avid reader, master of crossword puzzles, clay sculpture, and accomplished pianist. Friends and family alike loved to visit her home and sing Broadway Show tunes and Christmas carols as Pat played their favorites. She is remembered as a loving wife, incredible mother, magical grandmother and beloved friend. She had a ready smile, great laugh and compassionate heart. We are richer for having her in our lives. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston. Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 4975 Lacross Road, Ste. 200, North Charleston, SC 29406. Visit our guestbook at charleston
