Mattie Mae (Smoak) Craven LADSON - Mattie Mae (Smoak) Craven, 92, of Ladson, widow of Forest Marshall Craven, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Pruitt-Health of Moncks Corner. Friends and family may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Friday, December 18, 2015 from 10 o'clock AM until hour of service. Funeral services will begin at 11 o'clock AM. Burial will follow at Summerville Cemetery. Mattie Mae was born on February 27, 1923 in Walterboro, SC daughter of the late Rice Smoak and Lois (DeWitt) Smoak. She attended Walterboro schools. She retired from Ladson Elementary school where she was a bus driver and dietician. She was owner/operator of Hickory View Nursery. Mattie Mae was an avid gardener. She was a charter member of Ladson Baptist Church for 57 years which was founded by her father-in-law, Marshall E. Craven. She is a current member of Miles Road Baptist Church, where she has been a member for 21 years. Surviving are: three sons: Charles Marshall Craven (Virgie) of Ladson, William Earl Craven of North Charleston and Kenneth Anthony Craven (Tamera) of Ladson; three daughters: Pansy C. Ramsey (Billy) of Summerville, Patricia Craven Shank of West Ashley, and Diane Craven Legette (J.R.) of Moncks Corner; son-in-law: Frank Ward, Jr. of Cross, SC; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Carolyn Marie Ward and her sister, Lillian Varnadore.
