Edwin Stanley Goodman "Eddie" CHARLOTTE - Mr. Edwin Goodman, 82, of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013, surrounded by his family. Eddie, a native Charlottean, was born on December 19, 1930 to the late Ethel and Al Goodman. Eddie was a graduate of Central High School, class of '49, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of Tau Epsilon Pi Fraternity. It was during this time that he met and fell in love with Shirley Clein. They celebrated almost 60 years of marriage. Eddie served in the United States Marine Corp, prior to working for many years with his father at Al Goodman shoes and opening his own business, Sharon Mortgage Co. Eddie was an active volunteer with Amity Country Club, Temple Israel, and Jewish Family Services. His hobbies and interests included needle pointing, reading, spending time at Lake Norman with family and friends, collecting and cutting rocks and geodes, and helping and adopting a variety of pets and animals throughout his years. Above everything else, Eddie's family and friends came first. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Clein Goodman, three children, Teri Goodman Moffett and husband, Mark Moffett, Philip Goodman, and Brett Goodman, all of Charlotte, his sister and brother-in-law, Boots and Kenard Strauss of Atlanta, GA, and his sister-in-law, Honey Clein Workman, and husband, Howard Workman of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Rebecca and Alexis Moffett, and Seth, Hannah, and Jacob Goodman, all of Charlotte. He will also be missed by Leigh Anne Freeston, many nieces and nephews, and his extended family, friends and neighbors. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am Sunday, January 20th, at the Hebrew Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eddie's name to Temple Israel, 4901 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28226, Jewish Family Services, 5007 Providence Road, Suite 105, Charlotte, NC 28226, or the Humane Society of Charlotte. Shirley and family, my thoughts and good wishes are with you. Edwin is now at peace and rest and no longer suffering and may you find consolation in this message.
