K. D. Martin ROCK HILL - Mr. K.D. Martin, 91, of 1330 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC and formerly of Belmont, NC, died December 26 at Westminster Health Care Center in Rock Hill, SC. Mr. Martin, a native of Cherokee County, SC was born on April 23, 1921 to the late Aker and Ofa Taylor Martin. He retired from Duke Energy after a thirty five year career in the Maintenance and Planning department at Plant Allen. He was a member at Woodhaven Baptist Church and a former member of South Point Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He served our great country in WWII as a Sergeant in the Rangers Thunderbird Unit of the US Army and was a Prisoner of War. He was a highly decorated soldier receiving a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Reggie and Sherry Martin of Rock Hill; daughter, Karen Gunderson of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Lauren Wolfe and Kathryn Gunderson of San Francisco, CA, Carly Martin of Columbia, SC, Taylor Martin and Paige Morgan, of Rock Hill SC; great grandson, Topper McClain of Rock Hill, SC; brother, Henry Martin of Lincolnton, NC. Mr. Martin was predeceased by his wife of fifty nine years, Irene Gosey Martin and fourteen brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at pm Sunday, December 30, 2012 at McLean Funeral Directors in Belmont, NC with Dr.Tom Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at McLean Funeral Directors and other times at the home of Reggie and Sherry Martin, 1300 Warrington Place, Rock Hill, SC.
