Dr. Luther Leslie Anthony, Jr. "Bud" GASTONIA - Dr. Luther Leslie Anthony, Jr. "Bud", 88, of 1351 Robinwood Rd., died Friday, January 25, 2013, surrounded by his family. Born in Kings Mountain, he was a native of Gaston County the son of the late Luther Leslie Anthony, Sr. and Margaret Hord Anthony, and brother of the late Margaret Frances Anthony. Dr. Anthony was a World War II veteran and purple heart recipient having served in the United States Army from 1943 until 1946 in the Company C 49th Infantry. He went to UNC Undergraduate School, UNC Medical School, and trained for his internal medicine specialty at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He returned to Gastonia in 1957 to join his uncle, Dr. Gus Anthony, in internal medicine practice. Later he was board certified in cardiology thru Duke University. Dr. Anthony later co-founded Gaston Internal Medicine, now Gaston Medical Group. He practiced internal medicine in Gaston County from 1957 to 1991. He served as Chief of the Medical Staff at the new Gaston Memorial Hospital and as president of the Gaston County Medical Society and president of Heart Society of Gaston County. A dedicated and capable practitioner, he will be remembered as a gentle and wise caregiver to both his patients and his staff. He was a life time member of Pisgah ARP Church where he served as Elder and Deacon. Bud was a kind, loving and faithful husband, father and brother whose memories will be cherished by his wife of 58 years, Nannette Sylvester Anthony of Covenant Village and his three daughters, Patricia A. Bond and husband, Thomas, Nancy A. Bryant and husband, Barnard, all of Asheville, and Martha A. Waggoner and husband, Lon of Gastonia and his beloved sister, Isabelle Anthony Hiatt of Covenant Village. He is also dearly remember by his grandchildren, Ashley Bond, Maggie Bond Asher and husband, Josh, Hannah Bond, Alex Waggoner, Austin Waggoner, and Rett Waggoner. A memorial was held at Pisgah ARP Church January 27, 2013 officiated by Rev. Rick Lewis. Memorials may be made to Pisgah ARP Church, 3600 Linwood Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052, Crisis Assistance Ministry, 805 W. Airline Ave., Gastonia, NC 28052 or Covenant Village, 1351 Robinwood Rd., Gastonia, NC 28054. The family would like to thank Nancy Taylor for her constant love and kindness, Covenant Village, and all of Dr. Anthony's caregivers.
