Obituaries from Two Days Ago

Cook, Nancy - Huntersville
Nancy Hucks Cook HUNTERSVILLE - Jesus said, "Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." It is with great comfort that we celebrate the life of Nancy Lenora Hucks Cook. Born in the community of Croft on October 7, 1918 to the late Clarence and Alma Davis Hucks, she was raised to love her Lord and Savior and was a faithful servant to God for over 96 years here on earth. It is a beautiful gift that she was called home to be with God and all those that have gone before her early Sunday morning, March 1, 2015. A service to celebrate her faith filled life will be held at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Cornelius on Friday, March 6 at 3:00. The family invites anyone wishing to offer condolence to join them in the sanctuary during the hour prior (2-3) to the celebration. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Nancy married Ervin H. Cook on August 23, 1940 and together with God, they raised a family of five children while farming side-by-side. She was always involved in her children's schools, was an adult leader for their Gilead 4-H club. She was a long-time member of the Home Demonstration Club/Extension Homemakers Club, serving several terms as President. She was active in her church for over 70 years, serving her Lord through her support of many barbeques, bazaars, and family dinners. Over the years she was a member of the F. W. Kicker Fellowship Sunday School Class, Chairman of the Myrtle Caldwell Circle, and President of the United Methodist Women. In addition to her gardening, canning and preserving food to feed her family and friends, she liked reading. Her talents were many, and she enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, sewing, painting, cross-stitching and especially loved quilting. In her later years she and her sisters would have "sisters' day" each month and often quilted together. Her family was the center of her life and her legacy. She is survived by her five children and their families: Gaye Gough and husband Ken of Eugene, Oregon; Doris Bradley of Greensboro; E.H. Cook, Jr. and wife Cindy of Huntersville; Lois Peterson and husband Steve of Boone and Henry Cook and wife Susan of Huntersville; Laura Bradley Fenn, Kristi Cook Wright and husband Matt, all of Charlotte, Kelli Cook Bowman, Kevin Cook, both of Lincolnton, Henry Lee Cook II and wife Erica of Huntersville, David Cook and wife Annette of New Hill, NC, and Katy Cook of Huntersville are her surviving grandchildren. In addition, she leaves seven great-grandchildren, Jake and Michael Fenn, Ashlynn, Amelia, Hunter, Henry Lee III, and Caroline Cook. As the oldest of six girls, she is survived by two sisters, Gwen Monteith of Huntersville and Mary Bruce Austin of Charlotte and sister-in-law Ruby Cook of Huntersville. In addition to her soul-mate Ervin, Nancy was preceded in death by her grandson Gregory Bradly and his father Erskine, and her sisters Rosa Davis, Louise Whitlow and Betty Irvin. We rejoice in this happy reunion and thank God for His gift of everlasting life. Over the last few years of her life with Ervin and following his death, there were wonderful caregivers and faithful family and friends that helped to make their twilight days comfortable. The family wants to thank everyone for their love and support during this period of their lives. At Nancy's and the family's request, anyone wishing to honor her life might do so with a memorial to the Mount Zion United Methodist Church,19600 Zion Avenue, Cornelius, NC 28031 or to the Levine and Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC, 28078.
