Leon N. Lawing, Jr. "Lonnie" CHARLOTTE - Leon "Lonnie" N. Lawing, Jr., 66, following a period of declining health, Lonnie passed away on June 3, 2015. Lonnie was born May 1, 1949 to the late Leon N. Lawing, Sr. and Wilma A. Lawing in Charlotte, NC. Lonnie graduated with the Garinger High, class of 1967. An avid fisherman and vegetable gardener, he also enjoyed astronomy and loved to play guitar. Lonnie will be most remembered as a beloved brother and devoted son with enduring family ties. He is survived by his only sibling and brother, Charles B. Lawing, his wife Christina and their four children, and many cousins. Services were held in Charlotte, where Lonnie will rest in peaceful slumber alongside his mother, father, and grandmother at Sharon Memorial Park.

Henry W. Leake CHARLOTTE - Henry W. Leake, of Charlotte, passed on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Second Calvary Baptist Church, 114 Nelson Ave., Charlotte. Visitation will begin at 11:00am and the Funeral will follow at 12:00pm. Interment will be at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens. Long & Son Mortuary Service is serving the Leake family.

Luscher Jr., Charles - Indian Land  
Charles Bernard Luscher, Jr. INDIAN LAND - Charles Bernard Luscher, Jr., 79, of Indian Land, SC, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2015, at CMC - Pineville. Charles Luscher was born on December 26, 1935 in Queens, NY, son of the late Charles Bernard Luscher, Sr. and Maude Goodman Luscher. His beloved wife Rosmary Luscher also preceded him in passing in June of 2014. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech. in New York and owned and operated Luscher Air Conditioning. Chuck married the love of his life Rosemary on February 11, 1961 and from that marriage were blessed with four wonderful children and lived most of their lives in East Marion, NY. He was an avid fisherman and loved going on cruises and anything on the water in a boat. He also enjoyed teaching his grandchildren and fishing and boating. Survivors include his children Charlie Luscher, Jean Lepore (Domenic), Brian Luscher all of Charlotte, and Stephen Luscher (Karina) of Hollywood, Florida; sister Barbara Grimes of Delray Beach, FL; and brother Jack Lushcer (Lori) of Deer Park, NY; and by his seven grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015, from 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church in the Daily Mass Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM in the chapel with Monsignor John J. McSweeney, Celebrant. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Our Lady of Grace Mission, 7031 Waxhaw Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel. Long, Betty - Maiden  
Betty Jean Long LINCOLNTON - Betty Jean Long, age 84, of Lincolnton, NC, went home to be with Jesus on July 24, 2015. She was born on October 30, 1930 to the late James and Annie Long in Charlotte, NC. Betty was a devote Christian and her faith showed through every aspect of her life, she was a charter member of St. James UMC in Charlotte and at the time of her death she was a member of Stallings UMC, Stallings, NC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers: Winfred Long, Jimmy Long, Donald Long; four sisters: Willie Simpson, Clara Long, Essie Shaw, Carolyn Holland. Betty is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 3:oo pm in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC, the family will receive friends one hour prior with burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Lawter, John - Charlotte  
John David Lawter CHARLOTTE - John David Lawter, 68, passed away on July 21, 2015, at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Buford, GA on May 16, 1947, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee Lawter and Rosemary Couch Lawter. He was preceded in death by his wife Deborah Crews Lawter, sister Juanita L. Seay, and brother Eddy N. Lawter. He is survived by his wife, Barbara B. Lawter, and sons, Jonathan D. Lawter, Sr. and wife Melissa, Darren J. Lawter and wife Shannon, and Jeffery D. Lawter and wife Joy, a brother, Roy E. Lawter, two sisters, Robin L. McGee and Lisa L. Henson, three step-children, 12 grandchildren, and a great-grandson, Thomas. Mr. Lawter was a Vietnam Veteran, stationed in Phu Bai with the 101st Airborne, 27th Engineering Battalion. He was employed by Stork Enterprises and Carolinas Medical Center. He was a member of the Brunswick Civil War Round Table, The Civil War Preservation Trust, and the Museum of the Confederacy. The family is grateful for the dedication and skill of Dr. Ghosh and Dr. Sarantou of Levine Cancer Institute, for the kindness shown by all the staff in suite 5300, and for the compassionate care given by Carolinas Palliative Care and Hospice during his illness.
