Faye Cornwell Abernethy FORT MILL - Faye Cornwell Abernethy, 92, of Fort Mill, S.C. passed away Monday, January 19, 2015, at White Oak Manor, Rock Hill, S.C. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00pm at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Gastonia. Family will receive friends at the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church, Shelby, N.C. She is survived by a daughter, Althea Wright (Partell) of Fort Mill, S.C. and three grandchildren. Costner Funeral Home-Gastonia is in charge of arrangements.

Andis, Kathryn - Charlotte  
Kathryn Jean Andis 1932-2015 CHARLOTTE - Kathryn "Gigi" died Saturday, January 17, 2015. She was born in Colorado and raised in California before moving to Arizona and then to Charlotte. An avid bird watcher, lover of dogs and cats, she participated in dog shows in her younger days as a much enjoyed hobby. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents Edwin and Frances Sherer, and great-grandson Jayden Mack. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Henderson and grandchildren, Carrie Allen, Shelby Henderson and Sean Henderson. As well as great-grandchildren: Aiden Fortner, Robert "Robbie" Henderson, Lillian Henderson, Elijah Henderson and Camden Henderson. The family is grateful for the amazing support from Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte, and Erika for her care. A private burial will be held, Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 2pm at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte. Asimos, William - Pineville  
William A. Asimos "Bill" PINEVILLE - William A. "Bill" Asimos died at his residence on January 19, 2015 at the age of 85. Born July 15, 1929 in Kato Hora (Nafpaktos) Greece, he was the son of the late Asimaki and Agathe Asimakopoulos. He attended schools in Nafpaktos, Greece and emigrated to the United States in 1950. He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in York, Pennsylvania prior to relocating to Pineville, where he was a faithful member of the St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church in Charlotte. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was a member of the White Rose Chapter of AHEPA, the Masons, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the York County Shrine Club. He was owner-partner of the Ramona Restaurant and the Colonial Coffee Shop in York, along with Donut World in Red Lion and Columbia, Pennsylvania. In 1967-68, he was president of the Southern Chapter of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association. He was a member of the East York Lions Club and the Country Club of York, where he loved playing golf. His family, friends and customers will always remember him for his good humor. He is survived by his beloved wife, Anita, of 58 years, and two sons, Michael Asimos (and wife Victoria) of Haverford, Pennsylvania and Andrew Asimos (and wife Christie) of Charlotte, North Carolina. Also surviving are his four grandchildren, Bess Anne Asimos, Mary Katherine Asimos, and Luke Andrew Asimos of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Annabella Paige Asimos of Haverford, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he is survived by two sisters in Greece, Stavroula Fotopoulos and Demetra Bokaris, and many nieces and nephews in the United States and Greece. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Arthur Asimos. A Trisagion Service will be held at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC 28270. The family will receive friends beginning at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 2500 Pine Grove Road, York, PA 17403, with the Rev. Father Andrew N. Tsikitas, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Rose Cemetery in York. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to either the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 2500 Pine Grove Road, York, PA 17403 or St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox, 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.

Austell III, James - Charlotte  
James Everette Austell III "Jimmy" CHARLOTTE - Jimmy Austell, 38, passed away on Friday January 16, 2015. He was born in Charlotte on June 2, 1976 to Jim Austell and Pat Austell. He was a 1994 graduate of West Mecklenburg High School. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Enterprise stationed in Virginia from 1995 - 1999. He attended CPCC studying Fine Arts and Music. Jimmy worked at various music venues as a sound engineer and also in the family business. Jimmy loved music, golf, disc golf, football but most of all his furry son TJ, he was a true and loyal friend, a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, grandson and boyfriend. Jimmy was preceded in death by his grandfather James E. Austell, Sr., an aunt Laura Suzanne Austell and his dad Jim Austell, Jr. He is survived by his mom Pat Austell; sister Dawn Bolick; nephews (who he considered his sons) Jeffrey and Matthew Bolick; grandparents Rae Austell and John and Charlotte Urwin; aunts and uncles Nancy and Jim Pardee, John and Laurie Urwin and their families as well as his girlfriend Amy Laughter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity or to the ASPCA. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Austell will be held 3:00pm Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. Axsom, Enos - Salisbury  
Enos Axsom SALISBURY - Mr. Enos Cornelius Axsom, 86, of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Avante at Concord. Born on July 14, 1928, in Surry County, he was the son of the late Martin Neal and Carrie Childress Axsom. Educated in the Surry County Schools, he was a faithful member of South China Grove United Methodist Church. Earlier in life, he worked in textiles and retired from N.C.D.O.T. as a foreman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded by his sisters Mildred Medley and Bessie Ashburn, and brother Gurney Axsom. Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Michael James Axsom (Pamela), of Charlotte, and Larry Wayne Axsom, of Kannapolis; brother Robert Axsom (Carol) and sister Julia Barber, both of Dobson; grandchildren, Matthew Axsom (Robbi), Jonathan Axsom (Crystal) Brad Axsom (Emily), Angela Thompson (John), and Alana Axsom. Great-grandchildren include Connor, Madison, Emery, Emma Brynne, Ayden, and Ally. Visitation will be on Monday from 1:00 til 2:00 at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove with funeral at 2:00, also at the funeral home, with Rev. Doc Warner, minister. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South China Grove United Methodist Church, 230 Rose Ave., China Grove, NC 28023. Mary Isabelle Bell 5/7/1935 - 1/20/2015 CHARLOTTE - Mary I. Bell was born on May 7, 1935 to the late Will Rice and Rosa Common in Fairfield County, SC. Mary departed this life on January 20, 2015, at Charlotte Healthcare Center in Charlotte, NC. Mary relocated to Charlotte NC in the 1960's. Mary attended the Fairfield County Schools in Fairfield, SC. She loved everyone dearly and never met a stranger, she will be forever loved and truly missed. Benjock, Gregory - Hickory  
Gregory Francis Benjock "Greg" HICKORY - Gregory "Greg" Francis Benjock, 77, of Hickory died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Trinity Village. Born January 10, 1938 in South Heights, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Frank and Anne Dudash Benjock. Greg earned his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and holds two U.S. patents for fiber technology design. He spent 34 years in engineering management and research at Celanese Corporation. He represented Celanese internationally. Upon retirement, he taught math at Charlotte Catholic High School and volunteered at church and in the community with the Knights of Columbus. He was a world traveler and a help to anyone who needed a hand. His lifelong passion was refurbishing cars and fixing watches. It's estimated that he repaired 100 cars and 1,000 watches over his lifetime. Greg's strength was his tenacity and persistence. He was an inspiration to all who saw his comeback from a serious stroke 35 years ago to regain his life and career. He never let his handicap define him or hold him back from what was possible. His motto was "Do the job right the first time." He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Barbara Werntz Benjock of the home; three sons, Greg Benjock and his wife Joyce of Mount Pleasant, SC, David Benjock and his wife Carol of Summerville, SC and Chris Benjock and wife Angie of Concord, NC; two step-daughters, Angela Werntz of Pikeville, KY and Linda Slagle and husband Johnny of Taylorsville; seven treasured grandchildren, Joseph and Lydia Benjock, Spencer Wright and Jennifer Benjock, Paul and Hanna Benjock and Mary Rose Slagle; and a sister, Mary Lou McCarthy of Dayton, OH. A brother, Leonard Benjock preceded him in death. A Catholic Memorial Mass will be 11:00am Thursday, January 22, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory.
