Walker Sr., Odell - Charlotte  
Odell Walker, Sr. CHARLOTTE - Odell Walker, Sr., 68, passed away on April 10, 2015. Services to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 18th at St. Paul Baptist Church at 12noon. Visitation from 11-12. Odell Walker, Sr. was born in 1946 in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Joe Walker and Leila Jones. He graduated from the historic black high school of Second Ward, home of the Tigers in 1965. Alexander is serving the family.

Walters, Joann - Charlotte  
Joann Day Walters CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Joann Day Walters, 74, of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday April 14, 2015, at her residence. Born December 18, 1940 in Ashe County she was a daughter of the late Howard Day and Faye Jones Day. Graveside services will be conducted 12:00 Saturday April 18, 2015, at Forest Lawn Cemetery West in Charlotte with Rev. Jason Garner officiating. A loving mother and grandmother, she leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Jimmy Dale Walters (Sandy) of Gaston, SC, Robert Walters of Charlotte; daughter, Teresa Gillespie (Brian) of Mint Hill; grandchildren, Jimmy, Christopher, Jason, Michael, Courtney, Joshua; four great-grandchildren; and five sisters and brothers. Wilhite, Kathleen - Charlotte, Nc  
Kathleen Hackman Wilhite "Kathy" CHARLOTTE - Kathleen "Kathy" (nee Keefer) Hackman Wilhite went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 12, 2015, at her home in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born on April 18, 1955 to Robert L. and the late Vivian Werner Keefer and grew up in Palmyra, PA. She and her husband, Gary R. Wilhite, were good friends in high school. They went separate ways, but became reconnected 35 years later and were married on July 11, 2009. They have lived in Charlotte for the past five years. Kathy was a graduate of Palmyra High School (1973) and Lebanon Valley College (1977) with a B.S. in Music Education. She raised her children on and worked in the beautiful setting of the former Hackman dairy farm in South Annville Township, PA. She was a substitute elementary school music teacher and taught private piano lessons. Later, she was an event coordinator for Shining Light, a Lebanon, PA Christian youth ministry. She taught children's Sunday School for many years. In Charlotte, she was a member of Christ Covenant Church, Matthews, NC, where she belonged to a Covenant Group of precious friends. She volunteered as a receptionist at the Charlotte Pregnancy Resource Center; for Metanoia, a Bible study program for prison inmates; and as an English as a Second Language teacher assistant. She was part of WYSE Women, a cancer support and wellness group. They were dear friends, offering much encouragement and inspiration. She had wonderful neighbors and thoroughly enjoyed living in the Villas at Summerlake neighborhood. Kathy's greatest joys were being with and loving her family. Caring for God's creation in her garden - birds, flowers, and wildlife - inspired and delighted her. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, dancing, traveling, and her cats. In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by her children: Jessica L. Hackman Park, wife of Jin Ho Park of Winchester, MA; Benjamin A. Hackman, husband of Melissa Kobasic Hackman of West Chester, PA; Daniel S. Hackman, partner of Jennifer Schurfeld of Ephrata, PA; and step-children, Annelise M. Wilhite of Charlottesville, VA and John Andrew Wilhite of Brooklyn, NY. She was the adoring "Grammy" of two precious grandsons, Logan Park, son of Jessica and Jin Ho; and Andrew Hackman, son of Daniel and Jennifer. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Marie Keefer and her dear niece, Mia Grace Keefer of Wilmington, DE; by her former husband and father of her children, Jeffrey L. Hackman; and by beloved friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral and burial will be in Palmyra. A memorial service will be scheduled at Christ Covenant Church at a later date. Winters, Betty - Matthews  
Betty Jo Traywick Winters MATTHEWS - Mrs. Winters, 83, of Matthews passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015, peacefully in her home. She was born April 14, 1931 to JW and Buelah Traywick in Albemarle. Betty retired from Baucom's Nursery, a devoted member of The Sanctuary in Indian Trail, and loved the Lord and served in many ways. Her card ministry will be greatly missed. Betty loved the beach and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was loved and admired by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Jimmy; one brother and five sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Sheila Rankin (Steve) of Matthews and Cheryl Burleson (Cecil) of Albemarle; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a sister Willie T. "Bill" Palmer of Albemarle; and a brother, Jerry Traywick of Ormond Beach. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015, at 11:30AM at Heritage Funeral Home, Indian Trail Chapel with funeral service at 12:30PM. Burial to follow in Albemarle at 2:30PM. Withrow, Jerry - Charlotte  
Jerry Wayne Withrow CHARLOTTE - Jerry Wayne Withrow, 69, of Charlotte, beloved father and grandfather, passed away at his residence Friday, April 17, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer and COPD. Born April 5, 1946, to the late Elizabeth Smith Calhoun and the late John Withrow in Lexington, Va. He was also the beloved husband of his wife Doris, who had passed away this past January. Jerry retired April 4, 2008, from the Charlotte Observer after 29 years of service. Survived by his stepfather John Calhoun, Sr., daughters, Lori Foster and Lisa Frisbee, all of Charlotte; the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Joseph Frisbee, Avery Foster, Ashley Treat, and Evan Foster, all of Charlotte as well; one sister, four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews; and special son-in-law, Kevin Treat. Memorial services to celebrate Jerry's life will be held Tuesday, April 21, at 7:00 PM at the Chapel of Benson Funeral Services in Mt. Holly. Woodlief, Wilbur - Matthews  
Wilbur O. Woodlief MATTHEWS - Wilbur O. "Woody" Woodlief, 84, of Matthews, NC, died Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Lawyers Glenn Assisted Living. Woody was born in Franklin County, NC, son of Benjamin F. and Addie Finch Woodlief. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Woody was owner-operator of Easy Refrigeration. He was an avid sports fan attending many Friday night football games watching his nephews play. He also enjoyed going to the Panthers and Charlotte Knights ball games. Woody is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jean Carter Woodlief; sister Rachel W. Cox of Charlotte; brother J. Curtis Woodlief (Helen) of Raleigh. He is also survived by special nieces and nephews Janet Cox, Jay Cox, Brad Cox, Gary Cox, Ron Cox, Mark Woodlief, Larry Woodlief, Connie W. Moreadith, Blake Woodlief, Renee W. Martin, Diane W. Wallace, Deborah W. Pearce, Charlotte W. Bartholomew, Benny Woodlief, Kenny Woodlief and Charles Woodlief. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Leelan and Stancil. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews from 10-11am followed by service at 11am. Workman, Marjorie - Charlotte  
Marjorie Lang Workman CHARLOTTE - Marjorie Lang Workman, 75, of Charlotte, died April 13, 2015, at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House. She was born on September 19, 1939 in Minneapolis to the late Malcolm and Virginia Lang. She was a graduate of Northwestern University. She was a loving and devoted mother and wife for over 50 years. Marjorie was a member of Stonebridge Church, Charlotte, NC. Survivors include her husband Charles; sons, Christopher and wife Rachel of Huntersville and Nathaniel and wife Kimberly of Wisconsin; brother, Frederick and wife Cynthia; and sister Vivian; as well as six grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, 4742 N. 24th St., Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016-4862. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday, April 17, at James Funeral Home, Huntersville. Wyllner, Joan - Charlotte  
Joan Marie Wyllner CHARLOTTE - Joan Marie Wyllner, 68, of Charlotte, passed away April 6, 2015. She was born March 26, 1947 to Edgar and Rita Wyllner in Bryn Mawr, PA. She had one brother, William Wyllner of Reno, NV. She earned her Master's degree from FAU. Joan worked for the IRS in Atlanta, GA and for the State of Florida as a social worker focusing on protective child care and developmentally challenged adults and children. She volunteered with Crisis Ministry, Humane Society, and was a lay minister at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Lake Worth, FL. Since retiring to Charlotte in 2007, Joan obtained her CNA license, worked on the 2010 census, was employed at Measurement Inc. of Charlotte, and volunteered with Room in the Inn and Church of the Holy Comforter as a lay reader and lay Eucharistic visitor. Joan was a history buff and found joy in helping others. She is survived by her wife, Margaret (Peggy) O'Neill, several in-laws, and friends. She will be missed by many, including Mollie, her beloved cat. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 16th, at Church of the Holy Comforter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Church of the Holy Comforter, 2701 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28209.
