Bolick, Carl Cecil - Cramerton  
Carl Cecil Bolick "Cotton" CRAMTERTON - Carl Cecil "Cotton" Bolick, 91, of Cramerton, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was a native of Lincoln County and the son of the late Gerard Augustus Bolick and Mary Belle Massey Bolick Funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Cramerton with Reverend Dr. David Julen officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. Private Interment will be at Forest Lawn West with military honors provided by the Gaston County Honor Guard. Cotton was an outstanding athlete at Cramerton High and later enlisted in the Army Air Corps in WWII. He was shot down over Germany and spent 18 months in a German prisoner of war camp. He received a Purple Heart, Distinguished Flying Medal and additional honors for his heroism during WWII. After the war, he attended Gardner-Webb, graduated from Catawba College and embarked on his career in coaching and administration, including stops at Lee Woodard and Charles Coon in Wilson, and then 25 years at West Mecklenburg High School. He compiled a record as a head baseball coach of 287-148 and was AD at West for 20 years. After his retirement at West he served as athletic director at Charlotte Country Day for eight years. Cotton was a member of West Mecklenburg High School Hall of Fame, Charlotte Baseball Hall of Fame and North Carolina Athletic Directors Hall of Fame. He was also awarded the Southeastern Baseball Coach of the year. Survivors include his daughter, Julia Nikodemski; grandchildren, Greg Herndon and wife Rem‚, Blake Braswell, Mia Hurley and Chandler Nikodemski; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Herndon, Marcus and Aireanna Mitchell; and his dear friend, Dot Spangler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn, and daughter, Jan. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cramerton, 235 8th Avenue, Cramerton, NC 28032. Broadus, John - Charlotte  
John Richard Broadus CHARLOTTE - John Richard Broadus, 78, husband of Gae Good Broadus, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015. He was born in Owenton, KY on October 22, 1936 to the late John Richard and Nancy Cockran Broadus. He was a retired Mortgage Broker, a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church, NC and Second Presbyterian Church, Lexington, KY. A member of The Elks, Financial Seniors and was a Kentucky Colonel. Along with his wife, he is survived by two children, John R. Broadus IV and Nancy Gae Broadus; two granddaughters, Shelby Hunt Henke and Suzanne Madison Henke; his sister, Jeanne Smith Howell; and his brother-in-law, William Howell. His other sister Suzanne Howell passed away in February 2015. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Kerr Brothers-Main St. with Pastor Erin Rouse (Second Presbyterian Church) officiating. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the hospice at Southminster Retirement Community at 8919 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 or Sharon Presbyterian Church at 5201 Sharon Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210 would be appreciated. At a date to be announced, there will be a memorial service at Sharon Presbyterian Church.

Crutchfield, Van - Graham  
Van Doran Crutchfield "Doe" GRAHAM - Van Doran Crutchfield, 80, passed away peacefully at Agape Senior Hospice in Conway, SC, on April 22, 2015. Van graduated from Eli Whitney High School in Graham, NC in 1953. Van was born February 23, 1935 in Burlington, NC. Van married Margaret Dixon in 1954 and she graduated from Eli Whitney in 1955 and she passed away on May 1, 2013. Van was born in Burlington, NC and was the son of the late R. C. Crutchfield and Mable Terry Crutchfield. Van started his working at Sellers Mill in Saxapahaw during his high school years. Van moved his family to Charlotte, NC and worked for BASF Corp. in the Technical Service Department. Van in 1965 worked in sales at Tenneco and American Chemical and Color (AC & CC) as Field Sales Manager and in 1975 (AC & CC) Regional Sales Manager Danville, VA, 1979 (AC & CC) Regional Sales Manager in Dalton, GA. Van and Margaret became owners of Credible Inc. in Richfield, NC and sold the business to retire in 2000. Van was a Freemason and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley in Charlotte, NC. Van grew up in Alamance County, NC in Saxapahaw. Van was a member of the undefeated 1951 American Legion Baseball Team and is a member of the Graham Sports Hall of fame. Van and Margaret retired to North Myrtle Beach, SC in 2001. He is survived by sons Kim Dixon Crutchfield of North Myrtle Beach, SC and son Todd Lee Crutchfield of Jacksonville, FL. Van and Margaret were active members of Trinity United Methodist Church North Myrtle Beach, SC. Van loved all sports including Carolina Tar Heels and Carolina Panthers football. Van loved playing and watching golf as he was a scratch player. Van won numerous individual and team golfing events. The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Agape Senior, Conway, SC. A Graveside Service will be held at Moore's Chapel Cemetery at the intersection of Hwy. 87 South and Moore's Chapel Cemetery Road, North of Saxapahaw, NC on May 1, 2015, at 11:00 AM with Mr. Rowen Grant officiating. A celebration and tribute to his life will be held after the graveside service at Hursey's BBQ, 1234 South Main Street, Graham, NC 27215. Linda Joyce Hayes Lewis Deaton "Mama Joyce" CHARLOTTE - Linda Joyce "Mama Joyce" Hayes Lewis Deaton, 73, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, peacefully at her home. Born February 21, 1942 in Horry County, SC; she was the daughter of the late Wilford Atlas Hayes and Mary Fleetie McDaniels Hayes. She was preceded in death by her first husband James Edwards Lewis, and her second husband Bobby Gene Deaton, and their son Robert Deaton, and her brother Leo Hayes. Survivors include sons Milton Clayton Lewis (Sherry) of Aynor, SC and Jimmy (Jim) Atlas Kay Lewis, Sr. (Jim Matthews) of Oakland Park, Florida; daughters Carla Faye Daniels (Dan) of Marion, SC, Debra Wilson (Gary) of Statesville, NC and Barbara Ann Deaton of Monroe, NC. She is blessed with nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and had numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. She was an active member of her church and never met a stranger that she didn't hug and love unconditionally. She had numerous others that she called her (boys and girls) family. Visitation will be 5:00 to 6:30 PM on Wednesday, April 29th, at the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) of Charlotte Chapel with Pastor Catherine Houchins officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 30th, in Midway Cemetery on Hwy. 76 in Mullins, SC. Memorials may be made to MCC Church, 1825 Eastway Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. Louise Harrison Dover KINGS MOUNTAIN - Louise Harrison Dover, age 88, resident of 620 E. King Street, Kings Mountain, NC, died April 25, 2015, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. She was born in Lincoln Co., NC and a lifelong resident of Kings Mountain. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Dewy "DC" Columbus Harrison and Mary Sigmon Harrison; and her husband, Paul Dover. Mrs. Dover was retired from BellSouth after over 30 years of service. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed gardening and spending time with her dear friends. Survivors are her sons: Allen Dover and wife Laurie, Charlotte, NC, Tim Dover and wife Beth, Spartanburg, SC; brother: Joe Lee Harrison, Myrtle Beach, SC; sister: Bernice Cloninger, Mt. Pleasant, NC; four grandchildren: Ashley Dover Sorrow and husband John; Timmy Anne Dover Ferguson and husband Grant; Caroline Harrison Dover; and Johnathan Paul Dover; two great-grandchildren: Iris Ferguson and Lela Kate Sorrow. Graveside service will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at 3:00 P.M. with Dr. John Sloan, officiating. The family will speak to friends immediately following the service in the cemetery and other times at the home, 620 E. King Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086. Interment is in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Johnny Stevenson Forte, Sr. "Ben" CHARLOTTE - Johnny Stevenson Forte, Sr. "Ben" was born August 28, 1928 in Wadesboro, NC to the late Oscar and Dossie Forte. He departed this life on Friday, April 24, 2015. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lenora F. Waddell and Laretta F. Bell. He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife of 68 years, Nancy Viola Forte; children, Maxine Forte, Bernadette Forte, Kim Ford (Wayne) and Mary Smith all of Charlotte, NC, Johnny Forte, Jr. (Kim) of Winston-Salem, NC, Charles Forte (Linda) of Charlotte, NC, Leon Forte (Latanya) of Raleigh, NC and Ricky Forte (Demetrius) of Charlotte, NC; two sisters, Hallie Mae Hinson (Clarence) and Mae Collins of Charlotte; twenty -six grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Friday, May 1st, at 12noon at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 7237 Tuckasegee Rd., with Viewing from 11 to 12. Alexander Funeral Home is serving the family.

Freeman, Harry - Charlotte  
Harry Eugene Freeman CHARLOTTE - Harry Eugene Freeman, 75, Charlotte, NC, passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015. Harry retired from a career of truck driving after 35 years and was a member of the 3 Million Mile Club and earned many Safe Driving Awards. He was also honored as the Ryder Truck Driver of the Year in 1993. Harry was born in Greenville, SC and has been a Charlotte area resident for 57 years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather. Harry is survived by his wife Barbara Adams Freeman of 55 years and son Gregory Freeman (Kathy) and daughter Selena Freeman Lockhart (Joseph). He is also survived and loved by his grandchildren Kristal Freeman Gay (Brandon), Steven Freeman (Jessica), Abigail Lockhart, Benjamin Lockhart and one great-grandchild, Braedon Gay. He also is survived by brothers, Jay Avants of Belton SC, Ross Wallace of Cramerton, NC, Jerry Adams of Stanley, NC, Philip Adams of Georgetown, SC, and sisters Euline Jackson of Williamston, SC, Wanda Adams of Cramerton, NC, Karen Dennis, Huntersville, NC, Patsy Costner of Gastonia, NC, Janice Hansil of Peachtree Corners, GA. Harry loved to travel and thoroughly enjoyed bird watching and working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He was an accomplished wood worker who loved sharing his woodworking art with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing at Lake Wylie with his children and grandchildren. He collected hats and walking canes. His favorite canes included: The Sawhandle Cane crafted by his friend Bill Warren and his famed Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat Cane, a gift from his family. Visitation will be at M. L. Ford Funeral Home, 4820 Charlotte Hwy., Lake Wylie, SC, Tuesday night from7:00-9:00 PM. Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Burial will be immediately following the service in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Miriam Fry "Wrenn" CORNELIUS - Miriam "Wrenn" Fry, 82, of Cornelius died April 28, 2015. She was born on December 16, 1932 in Davidson, NC to the late DeRoss and Mary Caldwell. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church. She was preceded in death by her husband James Kirby Fry. She is survived by her son, Mark Fry of Tampa, FL; granddaughter, Stefania Fry of Italy; three great-granddaughters, Martina, Michelle, and Miriam Bollani of Italy; sister, Joyce Swicegood. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Saturday, May 2, at James Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the chapel of James Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilreath, Virginia - Charlotte  
Virginia Nordmann Gilreath CHARLOTTE - Virginia Nordmann Gilreath, a native of Charlotte, NC and a resident of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, died Friday, April 24th, 2015, in hospice care in Wilmington, NC. Born on June 13th, 1930, Virginia (Tillie) was the eldest of 14 children born to Virginia and Richard Nordmann of Queens Road West. She attended Lenoir Rhyne College. She was married to the late Edwin Gilreath of Charlotte and they had one daughter, "the delight of her life", Debra Gilreath Morgan of Charlotte, NC. Virginia lived a full and happy life. She earned her pilots license and was checked out on twin engine airplanes. She would fly in one of her three airplanes in the Powder Puff Derbies, The Angel Derby and the Air Race Classic. She received two safety awards for outstanding safe flying by the A.O.P.A. She was on the board of directors of the North Carolina area flying club. She served as Vice-Chairman, Secretary and news reporter for her 99 Lady Pilots Chapter of the International Organization. She was also a charter member of the Blue Ridge Chapter, The 99's, an elite group of 7,000 women pilots, the Piedmont Carolina Flying Club and the Arrow Flying Club. Virginia was an accomplished pianist, an avid boater, and at the time of her death had completed half of her autobiography. She loved "investigating the facts" and wrote copious, newsy letters to family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Debra G. Morgan, her son-in-law, Bob Morgan, her grandchildren, Toney Cannon, Carrie Henderson, Amanda M. Berkman of Charlotte and Adrienne M. Shipp of Gastonia, NC; her great-grandchildren, Noah Henderson, Jasmine, Samantha and Taylor Cannon, Christian Morgan, Sarah Shipp, Kolton Morgan, and Mya Belle Berkman; her siblings, Shirley N. Hill of Matthews, NC, Jeanette N. Lee, Linda N. Smith of Charlotte, NC, Frieda N. Porter of Atlanta, GA, Paul Nordmann, Henry Nordmann of Conway, SC and Ronnie Nordmann of Summerton, SC and scores of nieces and nephews. Virginia's stated the greatest moment in life came when she committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. She said her faith, the Bible and prayer are all anyone needs to have peace of mind. As she took her last breath, her daughter and sisters were singing to her, "Jesus Loves Me". The funeral will be at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Park Road, Charlotte at 2 PM Thursday, April 30th. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM at the same location. Her interment will be at Forest Lawn West at 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte.
